Here is a TEDx talk with Daniel Wendler. Daniel Wendler is a guy that has AS and had claimed to have mastered the art of social skills, or at lease faking it for that matter.

I am not a person that is all that good at reading body language but for some reason. This guys body language and the inflections in his voice are coming off to me as being really fake. In fact its so fake. It's really creeping me out. Anybody else notice that about him?

I don't think it looked fake or forced. His inflection and hand and facial movements were in such perfect synch with his words that it looked very natural. For all I know, it really was natural. Or maybe he got that synchrony with hours of practice. Whether practiced or subconsciously natural, I thought it looked just fine.

I don't see him that way.

I thought he looked a bit nervous walking in. And he didn't really set up the "have you ever had that dream" well, but that seemed like nervousness at the start. After that, he seems OK.

He certainly doesn't creep me out in any way.

It was at that point that he looked natural. It was when he got going is when I noticed that he kinda transformed in to an animatronic figure.

You are mistaken. In fact, Daniel is a well-regarded Wrong Planet member and he has previously shared this uplifting and positive talk with all of us. I do not see what issue you might have with this video. In fact, his message reflects the fact that Aspies certainly are (or can be) personable, friendly individuals. Daniel has advocated for us and educated others about AS with success. I admire Daniel, and I also like him. I replied to him, addressing others as well, when this successful and intelligent video was initially introduced. We all should be proud of Daniel - you've somehow misunderstood.

I think your perception is out of whack.

Yeah, Daniel's a really nice guy (and a sweetie) - I appreciate his intelligent talk. (Personally, I'd be nervous in front of a TedX audience too).

I am not referring to the quality of his speech nor do I have an issue with him at all. In fact, I like his speech a lot. Its the fact that I can tell that he's faking the body language and the inflections in his voice and to me. It really stands out. I myself have to perform this act everyday and to see a professional doing it and to have it look that phony just creeps me out. but then again. It's probably the same psychological reason as to why nobody like to hear their own voice recorded.

Could it be that you are projecting some of your inner anxiety onto him?

I just don't see what you are describing -- at all.

I have to think that either you are significantly more perceptive in this area, or you are mistaken. I am not sure I can judge. I will ask some NTs I know to give their view.

Importantly, Daniel is not a professional speaker or an actor - he's a genuine person that's not giving a performance.

I don't see it..

I can't detect anything remotely creepy about him, the way he talks, nada. He seems to talk and carry himself in a very natural and calm manner actually, and manage to keep a straight face. No creepy-ness, just a normal presentation, presented very well in fact.

I'm thinking maybe your reaction has something to do with his right hand, which is moving a little oddly. But this is because it's holding the chunky controller for the presentation... the gestures with his left hand, his general posture and carriage all seem natural to me.

I didn't see anything unusual about him.

Hello,

this is from an NT's point of view:

I watched this film twice - with and without sound.

There is (in my opinion) nothing about him (posture, gestures, tone of voice, facial expression) that distracts in any way from his topic. There's nothing "off".

And even if his way of delivering speeches (I don't know if this is the correct word to use here) is the result of practice - this only shows that he takes his audience seriously (respects them is perhaps the better expression ...). Very, very few pople are born with a natural talent for speaking - most have to work hard to reach the result they are content with. So again nothing fake here.

Have a good night - or day.

PS: English ist not my first language - please let me know about my mistakes. Thank you.

I have to agree with the others, LL. He does well with public speaking.

Maybe you're somehow in tune with some subtle "leftover" of his autism and are picking up slight differences most people, NT or otherwise, wouldn't.

I do have to thank you, tho, because things he said and things said by another person in a related video are adding to my personal collection of "proofs" that I'm on the spectrum.

You seem to have both Aspie and neurotypical traits

What would these results mean? Been told here I must be a "half pint".
