Personally, I dislike those who tell me to be happy, no offense meant to be taken to the OP. It's just, if I'm in a particularly crappy mood and someone just tells me to smile and "be happy", I'm going to say something about it.

I am the same way but I probably usually don't say anything about it. I guess I should not let it annoy me as they are just trying to help but it does annoy me a lot. All of our emotions are real and equally valid and should be respected as long as we do not hurt anybody. Especially in America negative emotions are frowned upon.
