I've always wondered what it would be like to be "normal" and whether or not my personality would be any different if I was so I sometimes muse about being neurotypical for a week or so.

Just wondering if anyone else would give it a try if they could.

Haha, that would be funny to try. Like living in Bizarro World. :P

I'd probably run around hugging people.

Yes I would to see if I am NT, find ways to make make myself more NT if I turn out to be non-NT and I will go out and have fun.

Absolutely. It would be a learning experience to see the world a bit differently.

That being said, I wouldn't want it to be permanent or anything. I like myself just the way I am, warts and all. :D

Absolutely not. I feel unsettled enough by change.

I think I may have multiple personality disorder, and one of them is NT.
People tell me that I show at least 8 distinct personalities.

I don't find most neurotypical people particularly pleasant to be around, so no, I would not want to be one of them, even for a little while, any more than I would want my brain transplanted into the body of a chimpanzee for a week, just to see how it smelled.

What you're saying is "Would you want to be cured of your autism, even temporarily "? And I say, no, I don't feel that who I am needs to be 'cured.'

I think I would do it simply so that I would be better able to explain to NT's what it is like to have autism. But I don't know if I would like it for an entire week.

I'm surprised at how many people wouldn't want to try. Maybe it's because I'm bipolar – I'm used to dealing with depression, mania, and mixed episodes all the time, so adapting to a different outlook is not a big deal for me, and doesn't affect my sense of self. I'd still be me, but for reasons that defy explanation I'd suddenly feel like socializing, and getting out and doing lots of different things instead of just obsessing over my special interest.

Yes, because it would help me understand them better.

But I'd definitely want to turn back after the week was over.

I would totally be NT for a week if I could. I wouldn't want the change to be permanent, but I'd like to see the world through their eyes for a bit just to see what it's like. It'd be interesting.

Since I'm a curebie who actually wishes they were neurotypical or at least less severe, I would definitely want to try at least to see the differences. Rather than an idea of not valuing different perspectives, it's more like trying to get around the world easier.

Even though I would be scared both to do it and come back I say yes out of pure curiosity. Everybody here talks about NT' s guesses about them so it would be nice to find out what it is really like. It would help me not only find out about them but myself. The question that most fascinates me is what parts of me would remain in NTPartOfMe. I think I would need more then a week, at least a month. I would also like to be female for a month for similar reasons.
