Vanishing Special Interests?

My interests seem to cycle, I never fully lose an intense interest in most topics that interest me but sometimes they go to the backburner for awhile. Right now I still would think information about dinosaurs is interesting but it's no longer all-consuming. In a few years I may no longer be completely absorbed by motor sports, but they'll likely still be 'kinda cool'.
Sounds a lot what like happens to me! I start off liking a subject on a superficial level, and then as I become more and more deeply engaged in it, I either realized it's too complex for me or get bored, and move on to something else. This is true of the two major special interests I've had, as well as random side interests. I still think physics is pretty interesting, but it's no longer something I want to be involved with (i.e., I don't want to devote my life to it).
