I think I figured it out.

It's like praying. For people in denial who can't accept reality it's the final hope they have to cling to. How can you cure a neurological disorder? Nanobrainsurgery?

Sorry if this sound harsh.

Nanobrainsurgery?

And who says that that will forever be impossible?

I don't necessarily, for one, but it's a bit into the future if even possible though, at least well beyond anyone alive today probably.

A cure for autism isn't something I'm necessarily against. There's those that want it and many that could possibly improve from it. But I think a cure is often pressed for in a universal fashion, ignoring the fact that many wouldn't want to change the way they are and would prefer that their difficulties are supported through accommodations. A cure shouldn't be forced onto someone and nor should this crowd be pressured into taking it. That's quite unethical.

Personally, I think funding is better spent on diagnostic methods and treatments instead of bio-medical cures or prevention. It's more practical given that it'll be a long time before we're capable of altering something as inter-grained as someone's brain wiring and it's more viable in that it helps autistic people living among us now. Those that peddle false, nonscientific "cures" are only deluding themselves and others.

So as shown in this movie. We will get inside the brain and with a laser. Zap those autism brain cell in to oblivion.

I don't think it will be forever impossible. But around the time we're capable of it, we'll also be capable of things like erasing someone's memories, programming in new skills without the person having to learn them, and possibly uploading people's minds to computer hardware.

I also think it's our best bet at curing autism in people who are already born, but that it's highly unlikely we'll ever develop it because once there's a prenatal test, the research for a cure will lose most of its funding.

So... eh, yeah, an autism cure is not a practical consideration, at least in the forseeable future.

The real danger is that people are sitting around, waiting for a cure, instead of living their lives; that people are searching for a cure when they could be learning useful skills; that people are focused on a cure instead of realizing that a happy life with autism is totally possible.

Biomedical treatments have definitely helped me and many other people. I don't really care what the anti-curebies say anymore. I used to be against a cure when I was younger. Now that I know who I can be I am totally for a cure. I never actually had any of the autism related strengths. I do have my strengths like everyone else, they just have nothing to do with autism.
