i get more work done at night--there are a lot of kids in my neighbourhood so during the daylight hours it's too noisy to concentrate, and i can't draw or write without intense focus.

i also like walking/biking at night because it feels like i have the city to myself when i do. it's peaceful and no one bothers me (unlike when i go out during the day).

Less light, less noise, fewer people at night. The world is less intense when the Sun is warming the other side of the planet.

It very much mirrors how I think, and I am so glad to have found this place! :D

on a workday how do you stay up until 5AM and then get any sleep before work?

My shift starts in the afternoon. ;)

I am free to delve deep into my research interests uninterrupted and go for walks without judgement or confrontation at night.

This is the same way I am. It feels good that I'm not the only one.

Not a morning person. I function best going to sleep at 2am and waking up at 10am - did my best work in university after midnight.

I do need my 8 hrs sleep though else I become a basket case.

Unfortuantely I work 8-4 and have a long commute so I get up at 5:45 am on workdays and stagger around and out the door. It's a wonder I don't put my clothes on backwards most mornings.

If I could actually get some decent sleep at night I'd be a morning owl however because I do have a sleep disorder (another symptom of Autism?) I'm more nocturnal which I guess is a positive because I'm not out when the sun is out (which I have problems with bright lights). So the answer to the question a night bird

I'm the same way. :D The peace and quiet helps me concentrate on things. It can be kind of a pain to deal with other people in the house who may be asleep though. :P

I'm an early bird. I get tired past 22:00 and I keep waking up at 05:00 and I'm usually wide awake by 06:00 - 06:30. Even on weekends. Once I'm awake, I'm awake. I'm just a morning person I guess. :)

I'm a morning person. That is, if I actually follow a routing. When I wake up I am chipper and can get a lot of work done. However, as with many here I have some issues with sleep and especially the transition to get to sleep. I do seem to need a lot of it though. If I follow my routing I can get by on 8, but if new, unexpected or social stuff happens, I definitely need 10 hours.

I don't actually have rituals. But I do kind of have some OCD things that I do and I may have OCD along with autism, unfortunately. :(

For instance, I'm very germaphobic. I take too many showers and wash my hands too often. And I also wash my clothes more often than they need to be. Taking lots of showers is unhealthy, but I feel the compulsive feeling that I need to shower a lot.

And I tend to use a lot of hand sanitizer. And I clean a lot of things a lot more than they're needed. Sometimes, I wish I had augmented reality classes or contact lenses that I could wear all the time, that would tell me how many germs are on something, and whether they're dangerous germs or not. I feel like it would bother me less if I knew and I knew everything was clean and safe and didn't have too much harmful bacteria on it.

But I don't like rituals really. Or I guess what I really mean is that I don't like schedules. Being responsible is a part of being an adult. But that doesn't mean that it's always fun. I find it most fun to be able to do what I feel like doing at the time, rather than having a schedule. The less schedule I have, the happier I feel. Having obligations and keeping track of time isn't fun for me. I'm sure that's how things are for most people, after all, it's a responsibility, not something people do for fun. But it does seem like some people do like schedules and responsibilities like that.

There's not much I have to do every day as long as I'm having fun. But I don't want to be doing things that aren't fun. Or doing things that make me feel uncomfortable.

This has been interesting reading.

Preferably, I'm a night owl. Always have been. I can get nine hours good sleep and wake up at 7am, but I won't really be alert and functioning til 11am. Or I can sleep 4am til 11am, and wake up alert and functioning.

I much prefer to keep the night company. A pleasant, quiet, cocoonish experience.

Same as how I prefer rainy days to dry days. And night rain is bliss.

Rain can be almost pornographic no matter what time of day, provided of course that the wind isn't howling too!

I have been both, but I prefer to be an early bird. This is what I have been before.

Waking up early gives me a chance to make the best of my days, and do the things that I wanted to do early so that I feel accomplished.
