I'm really picky with clothing. If I find a pair of pants that I love, I will often want to buy several pairs in the same exact size and color. If I do this, will people think I'm weird? I mean, they will be completely different. I'm just tired of change. I hate being comfortable one minute and then uncomfortable all for the sake of trying to be fashionable.

I will be going to college and don't have a job at the moment. Will people even give a crap? I guess one possibility is to get the same style, but in different colors. It's just for so long I wanted to do this..meh. Maybe an alternative is just yoga pants and a tank top every day with a sweater. I mean, yoga pants are, a lot of times, black. So I doubt people will question me if I wear the same type of pants every day if they are yoga pants...

I wear one color all the time! in fact I have several Polo's in one color and a few jeans in the same color and nobody really cares however I will say if one has an office job (as I did at one point) then you have to dress to fit in.

I'm kind of afraid people won't want to be friends with me, but then I figured, well, who cares. I doubt the same people would see me every day as colleges are big places. Besides, as long as I don't smell, I see no reason why people should care. I guess the office thing makes sense, but I just don't have all of this money to throw at clothing. If I find something and it's a reasonable price, it's just way easier to buy a lot of them. I mean if I could afford high quality clothing I would get like $300 pants but who has time and money for that?

I think a lot of females dress to be comfortable in class, right? I'm there to learn and possibly network, not to judge other people. I mean if I'm in jeans and a scratchy shirt, I won't be able to pay attention. I was told a few times in middle and high school that I wear the same things all of the time and people called me "dirty". I protested and said that I washed my clothing twice a week (I just threw everything in the washer at the same time and didn't separate them) and I had like 4 shirts and 4 pants. I also bathed twice a day and even had OCD and would wash myself until I bled, so I KNOW I was clean. But then I started to get worried. It was both males and females who would make fun of me. And my clothes never smelled, btw.

Also, I really like black and grey clothing, but is this bad for females? I was told before that it makes me look depressed and gloomy. Well I AM depressed and gloomy, but that's not why I wear it. I was kind of Gothic and into alternative clothing before, and a lot of that clothing was black. Is this fine to be social in? Or do I have to wear specific kinds of colors if I'm doing to do this?

I'm a guy so I can't comment on what is fashionable for females tho I will say if somebody chooses not to befriend ya based solely on how you dress THEY have an issue not you.

You might need to wash them once in a while or they'll get a bit whiffy.

(only teasing)

I realized I worded the title slightly wrong. I meant like can I buy like 7 pairs of the exact same outfit so I can wear the same thing every day. I refuse to wear dirty clothing twice in a row, so I have no problems with that.

Yeah, that's what I figured, JoelFan. This is going to sound stupid and irrational, but sometimes I look at peoples' Facebook profile and magazines and I just think about how I'm not looking "right". Like I will feel a need to wear high heels and makeup to fit in even though I usually HATE that stuff. I can't tell if it's jealousy or embarrassment from not assimilating. I'm just so uncomfortable in things like jeans and female shirts. I can only wear soft cotton tee shirts/tank tops and soft pants/jeggings. So, I kind of decided on the one hand, who cares. But on the other, if it will severely limit my ability to network with people and make friends, I might not do it. But then, if people don't want to be friends with me because of something so trivial, I probably wouldn't get along with them anyways.

Looking "right" and being fashionable enough to fit in is a really big deal to a lot of people, and they spend most of their time worrying about it just like you're worrying now. you're not likely to fit in with this crowd whatever you wear so dont waste energy trying to. They dont even fit in with themselves and their mindset is biased to excluding people. Lots of other people really dont care what you wear and think the groups that do care are shallow and brainwashed. Find these type of people and wear what you're comfortable in coz they'll be fine with that.

Its usually a man thing to buy a bunch of clothes that are the same (NTs do it too) but thats acceptable so theres no reason you cant do that too. And its fine to socialise in black clothes, but people tend to like it better if youve got a splash of colour somewhere. This could be a scarf, belt, hairband, badges, bit of jewellry etc- the stuff that people call "accessories". So maybe try to find some of this "decoration" to add to your black clothes?

I'm similar in the sense that very few clothes suit my comfort needs, and if I find items that do, I tend to want to wear that same thing or things as much as possible. So I buy multiples, although yes, the downside is that people think you're wearing the actual same garment every day, and will think odd things of you because of it. Not realizing that you have seven duplicates or that you wash the one you have every night or something...

I often try to avoid that by buying the same garment in however many different colors it comes in, instead; that's one solution to avoiding giving the impression of wearing the same item.

Either way, as long as the garments are always clean one way or another (either by washing frequently or having five of them all looking the same) people shouldn't complain. And if anyone rejects you for seeming to wear the same thing all the time, that's their loss and they must be pretty superficial. If anyone raised the subject you could explain what you've described right here:

That you have sensory issues with clothing and that it forces you to find and then keep wearing a limited selection of garments -- but that you do strive to buy those favorite garments in multiples (or just launder regularly) hence the regular re-appearance of some items.

I agree. College kids run around a lot of the time caring about how they look, so they may not even notice you. I'd say as long as you're comfortable, then so be it. I don't have clothes that are all the same color, but I really love the way certain clothes feel, and conversely hate the way others do, so I obviously have lots of pairs of clothes that I am most comfortable in. I have a pair of pants that are, I guess, what one could call "professor pants" that my wife thinks are the ugliest pants on earth. However, as soon as I put them on, I'd never been more comfortable. I wear them constantly.

I wish I could say that you'll find your niche in college. I certainly didn't, but I didn't have the internal strength and courage to go out and meet people after constant rejection. Maybe it would be best to search out for clubs that match your interests first thing, instead of worrying about how the general student body will view you so you don't end up losing your self-confidence.

I normally wear the same clothes quite often or atleast the same types of clothes, it kinda bothers me but only because it bothers me what others think of me base on what I wear I mean I don't wanna feel that but sadley it gets to me sometimes the need to be fashionable even for a guy, I try to resist and I do but it makes me feel kinda down so I guess im stuck in a like wise situation, I guess I wanna be fashionable but only because others are I coukd not care plus I like comfortable clothes as im stressed enough most days and having uncomfortable clothes will not help my overall comfort.

Lots of people prefer things like you do (I´ve been wearing sports t-shirts and Fjällräven shirts for 8 years).
Buy whatever makes you comfortable. I´m sure, that nobody will lift an eyebrow. They have more important things to worry about.....hopefully. :D

The celebrity media twists everyone's expectations in a lot of absurd ways. I've heard female celebrities talk about how they have to get rid of any clothing if someone photographs them in it, because being seen wearing the same thing twice will draw criticism and hurt their reputation.

Tags pose the biggest sensory problem for me, and some brands have really terrible tags while others have tags that don't bother me at all. Choosing several items at once by the same designer can also help create a unified look because they tend to use a particular color palette each season.

Find a variety of clothes you like wearing, but do wash them before they smell. If you get similar clothes, you can wear clothes you like while the others are in the washing. I tend to like bands related shirts, but I rotate them. Like I may wear a Def Leppard shirt one day, then a The Beat shirt. You just have to wash them at the right setting, or their patterns fade out.

Wash them on a gentle program or by hand and don´t ever tumble dry them. It will eventually destroy the print.
