Love, Respect, and Hate the most overused and misused words.
They're generally overused and misused because people allowed the words to have power and now people manipulate to their own benefits. Abusers say they "I Love you" you just so you'll stay with them.
Spoiled brats and ass holes say "I hate you " or " You need to learn some respect" when they don't get their way.
Respect is highly misused as the words people really want are subjugation, compromise and courtesy. The Regular Show episode on Respect is a perfect example of how misused the word is.

Respect is to admire someones qualities and achievements meaning you can even respect your enemy. Respect is earned not given because you need to have the qualities that someone admires. However people use this saying as a free pass to be douchebags since they're too illiterate to understand the true meaning of it. Treat people the way you'd want to be treated since they're human just like you besides, that person you treat badly may ended being the person to interview you for your next job, a serial killer with you on their list now, or be a millionaire who will not hesitate to expose you.

Love is confused with infatuation, very few actually experience love that is if it is even real. 50% of marriages in this country alone end in divorce, and this isn't counting all the dysfunctional couples who stay together only for money or for their kids sake.

Hate is confused for simple dislike. Let's see how many people who claim they hate someone react if that person they hated was killed right in front of them. Real hate is groups such as neo nazis and KKK they despise you just for not being like them whether it be out of your control or not. Stop saying you hate inanimate objects. You really hate brussel sprouts? Lets see you hate them when they're the only thing to eat in the middle of a desert.

I don't mind Brussel sprouts; I don't care for the aftertaste, though.

Indeed, Love and Hate are very strong words that much be used quite carefully.

I don't think that respect is a synonym for admiration, although it may be used to mean admiration in certain situations. Respect is more basic than that.

We need to either destroy the word or announce to the whole world it's true definition. As far as it goes in the dictionary respect is deep admiration.

Yesterday I overheard a classmate talk about how his dogs "respect" him after he beat them.
That is not respect.

Another poor use of the word "Respect my property!"
What you really should be saying is "treat my property with care" or "Have the courtesy not to mess my things up"

"Respect" has more than one meaning.

Both of those constitute proper use of the word according to this definition:

deference to a right, privilege, privileged position, or someone or something considered to have certain rights or privileges; proper acceptance or courtesy; acknowledgment
