Used to be Asperger's, now Autism (UK).

I am aware that the DSM-IV removed Asperger's and lumped it under ASD, but I am from the UK so I'm under the ICD-10 which doesn't morph into the ICD-11 until 2017 I think.

I was diagnosed as Asperger's as a teenager.

But now I am being put under Autism (well my neurologist said that on paper and my psychiatrist said it verbally) and not Asperger's.

That diagnosis change is for several reasons, including problems with verbal communication and also severity of symptoms. Yes I may communicate very articulately via computer, but when I speak, my brain is going at a hundred and fifty miles an hour trying to create sentences so I get tired very easily and give up.

My question: has anyone been originally diagnosed AS and then become Autism?

I hear about a lot of people improving, but I've gone the other way.

Yes, but because by my (adolescent) assessment, they were reluctant to diagnose AS as professionals know it is a redundant diagnosis.

I was assessed a few months ago, they said they do not diagnoses Aspergers anymore as it is expected to disappear in the next ICD.

Do they not just diagnose asd here now? My son has asd as his diagnosis but they said as he doesn't have a learning disability it is what they used to diagnose as aspergers.
I don't think you have got worse - it's just that they've changed the terminology.

agreed its called autism or ASD in the UK now when medicaly refering to the whole spectrum in the run up to next years ICD release [which will see the merging of ASD diagnoses].
if were diagnosed as classic autistic, and not atypical or aspergan they woud be putting autistic disorder on records, its worth asking his diagnoses to explain it further.

The person who assessed me diagnosed Asperger's Syndrome as it still exists in the ICD. I question him about that decision and his reply was 'we're not American'.

I had 'I conclude Mr [12341234] presents consistently with those with Autistic Spectrum Condition, most helpfully described as Asperger's Syndrome' thus all of them included. Good ol' ultra-PC Oxleas.

If it weren't for the Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust, I'd be dead; they are absolutely wonderful

Just out of interest, may I ask, due to your level, as it were, do you have 'Autism' or ASD/C DX? Don't feel compelled to answer. :)
