As a baby, did you need to be rocked to sleep?

My mom says she could not get me to sleep unless she either rocked me, or took me for a drive in the car. When I got past a certain age, I was fine on my own as long as I had my baby blanket. I had to rub the little yarn knots on it before I went to bed or else I couldn't sleep. I don't know how old I was when I stopped doing that, probably 9 or 10.

Was anyone else like that? Ironically I hated other kinds of motion, my mom said on swings I'd hold my breath I was so scared, even my little baby swing on the lowest setting. I don't like roller coasters, and I get dizzy somewhat easily so I actually don't like spinning like some.

No, but car rides were a nightly thing and even then I wouldn't stay asleep.

I think I did, even though I never got a full nights sleep until I was 4 years old.

Rocking back and forth to this day still helps calm me down.

I asked my mother about this, and she says it wasn't something they used to do. She said it could help, but that I went to sleep easily without it.

I thought most babies liked being rocked to sleep? Haven't you ever seen a mother gently rocking the pram when the baby keeps crying? And often it does sooth the baby.

More than likely but I really couldn't tell you.

I know one thing for certain though. I can't sit in a car or bus for any period of time without falling asleep. It probably is the rocking and rolling that does it.

I have to be rocked to sleep now.

Most babies are like that. Many new parents think they have discovered the miracle of all miracles when they take the baby for a car ride and he goes right to sleep. :D

I am not sure about being rocked to sleep but my parents had to take me for a ride in the car to make me fall asleep. This was back when gas wasn't expensive so this was no big deal. But sometimes I would wake up after they take me inside. I don't know if they did this for bed time, my mom told me they did this for naps. I have always hated bed times and naps so I was so hard to get to sleep.

I used to walk for miles, pushing my daughter in her buggy when she was a baby. It does do the trick.

It's the only time I got any peace as well.

I think it's the movement that is very soothing and relaxing. I never slept better than when I lived on a boat and got to fall asleep with the waves gently rocking the boat every night.

I don't remember my parents mentioning it so I can't know. But I know that a good way to get me to sleep was lightning a candle and letting me watch the flame. I could look at its slight move, fascinated. And eventually fall asleep.
Also watching other stuffs was making me sleepy. For example I could fall asleep while sticking my neck out of baby carrier and watching the wheel moving. People were giving my dad funny looks then since he didn't realize I am hanging on the rail, sleeping.

You should ask your mom.
