I know. It is a lot of money. I'm sorry it's so hard. I was unemployed at the time and had it half price which was £500 a few years ago. I had a savings account set up for my when I was born and I completely drained that. I'm happy with what those savings ended up being for. But in your case, perhaps you'll have more success than I did going via the NHS route. I really hope so.

It's possible you may need to politely and kindly disagree or double check on some occasions with a GP or another healthcare professional. For example, if you are being referred somewhere, ask whether this referal is for AS assessment and if not, what it is for. Is it a general mental health assessment? Will you be refered to a psychiatrist? (AS is not a mental illness, so will a psychiatrist know about AS?)

Or if those sorts of questions fill you with dread, perhaps there's someone else who can come along and help you. It's right to be nice to the doctors and begin with assuming they are going to be helpful, as opposed to being argumentative, but be ready to take the lead a bit too.

I genuinely wish you all the best. I really relate to your situation of wanting to get an assessment.
