Does anyone else have a big problem getting started on a task, or once they are into it, switching to another?

I have two settings, hyper all over the place and overfocused.

It takes me a lot of energy to switch between tasks.
I'm better in starting things than finishing them.

One of the biggest problems I have at the moment is being able to get started on any task around the house. The house is slowly turning into a mess as I can't get it together enough to do anything about it.

Yes, both of these are difficulties for me.
I can procrastinate about a task for weeks... but once I'm doing it, interrupt me at your peril.

I have been staring at this...task...and blinking, and thinking about it, but I just can't pull my mental trigger.

I can post about not doing it, but I can't just do it.

I try forcing myself, but that's no good...

While I have been going back and forth about it, I totally forgot about the pot of water boiling I put on to make coffee to help me focus :(

These are called “initiation” and “shift”. These part of executive functioning which many on the spectrum have problems with.

As part of my ASD assessment I was given the BRIEF-A test which tests for executive dysfunction. The results said 84 percent of people have better initiation skills and 98 percent of people have better shift skills then me.
