i must have been born without the neat tidy and organized gene. even 4 years in uncle sam's army was not able to impart in me anything resembling neatness and order. also, any attempts on my part to get neat and organized always end up as stressfully abject failures. i have too much stuff and not enough storage space so the house is never presentable. so who else on WP is an incurable disorganized slob? i sincerely hope i am not the only one, that would be lonely indeed. sooo pleeeaaasse somebody keep me company here!

My brother and me are Master Dinklists.

There are always Dinkles all over our flat.

Drawers full of dinkles
baskets full of dinkles
buckets full of dinkles

Dinkles = miscellaneuss thingys and dewies
screws, wires, chips, transistors, used tissues
sweets/candy wrappers biscuit/cooky boxes
serial boles with the spoon stuck to them
dride milk on the bottom, screwdrivers,
wire clippers, electrical connectors, springs,
gears, cables draping everywhere, stacks of dvds
shrumpled reseets from shopping, plastic grocery
bags stuffed with more plastic grocery bags,
a HUGE rubbish sack stuffed with aluminium cans
for my brother's recycling.

Penc pencils markers crayons erasers papers
colouring boox.

We had to have charity come in to help us clean
our flat beacuse we can't. it is not possibel,
I know this. It is not possible, tried it, can't do it.

1. I am an aspie. My documentation is near-perfect in its neatness. Or may be it is perfect. I certainly try to make it that way.

2. I have ADHD. My living space and work area tend towards entropy. I DO NOT LIKE IT THAT WAY. I know I will always be naturally clutteriferous and messy, but I do take care to work on changing it all the time. I've paid a professional organiser to help me with better strategies and I feel I can cope better now. I also capitulated at last and now occasionally get a maid to help me with the cleaning. For years I was determined to beat this myself, but the professional organiser said it would be better if I were to use my energy in pursuing my strengths. It just wastes too much time trying to succeed where I have a handicap.

It helps to play music when I am busy with the housework. It gives me a pace. I also get some of the simpler things done well if my neighbours pop in for a visit, because it makes me slightly edgy when they are there, and then I start bustling about and clearing away my underwear from the living room!

My home is at least not unhygienic. I chose to rent a small humble modern flat beause it is easier to clean than old house with "character".

Oh I'm a stuffer. I even stuff random items on my shelf. I'm very organised one day every few weeks and that's when I actually clean my room.

My brain, and my "own space," stay very neat and tidy. Currently, though, I'm living with my boyfriend and having no designated "own space" makes me into a bit of a slob.

I am the Queen of Slobs. In my room there is always, without fail, clothes both clean and dirty strewn about, remnants of food all over the floor and desktop (and sometimes stuck to the keyboard), empty glasses on the shelves and garbage in various places. I also tend to wear clothes multiple times before washing them, and I skip showers.

I dare you to find someone else on this website who is a bigger slob than me, and I highly doubt you will.

I prefer not to call myself lazy or a snob. I prefer the term 'anhedonic' or perhaps amotivational.

congratulations! you win
i have the rest of what you described but i draw the line at being squeaky-clean on my body, i like smelling sweet and deodoranty. i don't comb my long hair too often, though because it is generally tangled and is a pain to untangle. when it gets too much, i just trim-off the tangles.

Piles of stuff everywhere. There is a "deer track" (= narrow path) through the mess to the essential items, like the ADSL modem and my computer desk. Every flat surface is covered in litter: books, cables, CDs, DVDs, old floppy disks, more cables, electronic equipment, old PCs, old monitors, did I mention cables, old laptop bags, old laptops, opened mail, unopened mail, pens, papers, bags, cables, empty boxes for gadgets that I bought, and a myriad other small items of this and that. And a blow-heater. And some big cardboard boxes for monitors long past... and a slide rule from 40 years ago! And a box for my first CD drive which cost $800 back in the computer dark ages. And my first computer from 1985.

I can never decide what to do with this stuff, so I add it to the pile. One day I will die and some poor person will have to decide and throw it all out. Should I laugh, or cry, or look embarrassed?

Oh, I feel sooooo neat and organised by comparison now. I should hang out here more often so that I can become vain and proud and imagine that I am as organised as the rest of humanity. I wash regularly, and I wash my clothes too. And I brush my teeth once a day, and I mostly brush my hair daily too, except when I consciously decide on a more messy style for that day. I don't usually iron anything, though, so when I have to see customers I wear clothes that don't need ironing.

There are times when I will wear dirty clothes, though, like when I've been clubbing in a smoky place. If want to wear the same clothes the next night, they are going to smell of smoke and sweat again anyway, so I just put them on again all dirty because don't want to wear them out by washing them too often. (I wear girly clothes sometimes, but when I go clubbing I dress like more of a tomboy so people won't try to mess with me, so a bit of grunge doesn't matter so much.)

I live in the factory. Tools, machines, machine parts, and every space used. On some random six month cycle a room gets sorted, garbage cans filled, and it is still full. I can find something I have not seen in years, for like a squirrel with nuts, I know where I buried it.

There is a lot of value there, I have expensive junk, but not the space to set it up. So it lives in piles till I need it, then a table cleared, a system set up, it works, but everything else gets piled up somewhere.

I live through it all, stashes of clean clothes, my personal clean, but the background is twice to three times what most keep in a house.

It is many projects running, for example, my old motorcycle, torn down, cleaned at the kitchen sink, stacked about the house where there was space, for years, as I bought the missing parts one by one, and stashed them somewhere, then cleared space, the kitchen, and frame up, painted, assembled, till it was perfect, and then looked at it for a few months. Then I took it apart by sections, for I found faults, fixed those, and then put it outside.

There is always a computer being built, a machine in for repair, supplies for a future project, toner, boxes of paper, filling all space, most of the floor, yet I do have one of the best air filters made, the air is spotless.

If I had twice the house, or a shop, I could not afford the stuff, so we share quarters, and I do get some good help from my machine friends. They go on to having a space, orderly, productive, but I get left with the creation chamber.

On a personal level I do check with the mirror before going out. Run through my list, and am often seen wet. Shave, shower, teeth, to go to the post office, then back.

When I do not go out for days, I avoid mirrors. I have taken off clothes and put them in the garbage. Sometimes I get into it, working sixteen hour days for a while, single focus, but it gets things done. I am a mess, the house is a mess, but the finished project gleams.

I will never make Better Homes and Gardens.

I'm a slob. Some people say "yeah I'm cluttered but I know where everything is". Well, I don't know where anything is. It's exhausting. I can put something in my pocket and it disappears somewhere because I can't find it 5 minutes later. One of the problems is not enough storage space and another is I don't want to exert the attention that being neat requires. I'd rather be thinking about Gnosticism than putting my keys in the same place. I think the key is to have less stuff, but that opens up the whole emotional hoarder thing, which is very deep rooted. Since executive dysfunction colors everything I do, I tend to save things like papers because I'm afraid I will need them later. Not that I could find them if I did need them.

Wow, Inventor, I was married to an eccentric man like that who really is an inventor. We lived in his workspace for decades, and our bedroom was a kind of store-room; there were no pictures on the walls, and nothing pretty about it in any way (old sheets, old mattress, etc.; we had a maid, though, so the bedding was washed and things were vacuumed to a basic degree of decency, but nothing really shiny-clean).

He is actually capable of being tidy, but he has a lab assistant who is disorganised and she always misplaces things. The maid is not a great organiser either. And he is terrible at classification, although he is neat in dress when he has enough money for clothes.

As an inventor, he has several patents to his name. I helped him write them, because he is dyslexic and I am nearly hyperlexic (although neither of us knew this when we were married, and it caused a great deal of anger and sadness when we argued. (I suspect that he, like me, also has ADHD. 23% of Ukrainians have ADHD, and he's 100% Ukrainian and has many of the symptoms.)

We liked going to flea markets and scrapyards together. Occasionaly we still do it, although we are no longer married. I once asked him if he would still go to places like that if he got really rich and he looked me in the eye and said with emotion, "Yes, more than ever."

That is my daughter exactly!! !! We are opposite in fact....any disorder really bothers me...but she is happiest in the evening to sit in a pile of her own refuse.
