I just thought of this.
There are a lot of Chicken Soup books but there has never been one based around the topic of Autism. Why is there a Chicken Soup for the Chiropractic Soul, and a Chicken Soup for the American Idol Soul, but there's still no Chicken Soup for the Autistic Soul?
I know there's a Chicken Soup for the Soul, Children with Special Needs but that's not the same thing, especially for people with AS (and people who aren't children).
Here is the 'Contact Us' page of the official site of the Chicken Soup books:
http://www.chickensoup.com/cs.asp?cid=contact
I want to present my idea, but I'm not sure how I should do it. Also, it would be more effective if several people suggested it. And obviously the book can't be made without stories, poems and comic strips about AS/Autism. If they were actually going to make Chicken Soup for the Autistic Soul, who here would submit stories? I know I would...

Good point, why not?
I presonally think the series has gotten a bit out of hand, but they seem to be popular. I think I have 2 or 3 myself, my mom thinks they make good gifts.

I am surprised that one does not exist. I assumed they just weren't sold anywhere around me.

I would like to see the sort of glurge they would have for a Chicken Soup book for us.

Given the known preference for concrete imagery amongst Aspies:

CHICKEN SOUP FOR THE ASPERGER'S SOUL

Ingredients:

1 lb chicken, boneless, diced
1/2 lb carrots, diced
1 lb egg noodles...

Interesting - I'd have thought they'd already have a Chicken Soup book for autism...never thought to look for it. They might have one in the works for parents of autistic children or something like that. As a writer, I think this is an intriguing question you've posted. I'll have to check on that...

Children with Special Needs

Stories of Love and Understanding for Those Who Care for Children with Disabilities

none for us, though.

Book Description
A virtual alphabet soup of physical and mental disabilities is prevalent in today's world. From ADHD to visual impairments, from autism to paralysis, 20 percent of the U.S. population has some form of special need. Multiply that number by the families, friends, teachers, caregivers, and others whose daily lives are intertwined with theirs and it becomes obvious that most of us are in some way touched by someone with a mental or physical disability.

"Chicken Soup for the Soul: Children with Special Needs: Stories of Love and Understanding for Those Who Care for Children with Disabilities" is full of powerful testaments to the love and strength of families, the dedication and promise of teachers and caregivers, and the resiliency and hope.
An excellent gift book or parenting and support resource, topics include:
Parents who are adjusting with the unexpected

Families that work together to help their loved one meet everyday challenges

Teens who struggle with their needs, as they deal with physical changes, relationship issues, and their desire for independence

Empowering friendships and life transitions. Told with humor and honesty, these are stories that tug at the heartstrings. They are candid and personal and as unique and special as the person they celebrate.

Then it would definitely be worth checking into. I'm sure if we all put our heads together here we could come up with plenty of material for it - especially in regard to those who have developed excellent coping skills (for how we're treated in society and how we function within it).

People with disabilities don't exist. Just their families. Their poor, pitiful, burdened, yet often inspirationally cohesive families. We have to remember that.

I guess it could be a good idea. I personally find chicken soup books to be a bit sappy and do not read them.

I don't think chicken soup would do anything for someone with Autism, unless of course, that was their preferred meal (which would then make them comfortable until the next routine fork comes up).

"Soul" is one of those concepts I can't grasp; like "faith", "belief", "theology", etcetera (am I delayed, or am I advanced in this aspect? That's a question worth pondering).
