I have always been afraid of stray dogs, though I've never been bitten. When I see one on the street, I avoid it by a long distance. They are unpredictable.

That's sensible. A stray dog could be dangerous. Even someone who likes dogs should keep away from stray dogs.

Stray dogs are common from where I live. Being afraid of stray dogs are kind of a norm. I haven't been a victim of it's bite, but I was chased by those few times all over.

I do fear stray dogs especially if they're running around or barking loudly. Even my mom would turn around and go to another route no matter how far it was just to avoid them on the streets.

I'm not particularly scared of stray dogs, unless they're clearly aggressive. Unprovoked dog attacks are pretty rare, and most strays are perfectly friendly animals that have been abandoned through no fault of their own.

I cannot say, I have never seen a stray dog in Scandinavia. I probably wouldn't be afraid of it because I'm not afraid of wolves, either. The only nordic wild animal I wouldn't like to meet face-to-face is the wolverine. If they attack, you have no chance, and they do attack just for no reason at all.

I love dogs and get along well with them, but I would still give a stray wide berth.

Fortunately I live in a city where there are none.

I am afraid of dogs because they are noisy and I am allergic to them.

A friend of mine who during one period of his life used to break in houses for a living, would carry a dustbuster so if there was a dog inside he could turn it on and the dog would run away. You could try carrying one of those if you walk around. It'll look funny but so what? He said it worked every time for him. This was before home invasions, he would only go when nobody was home.

Ah, the pitfalls of a career in home invasion.

LOL! No, he didn't do home invasions. Only regular break ins when nobody was at home. I say that like it's better some how, but I know it's not.

I wouldn't say afraid. I just don't go near them or touch one because I don't know if they will be aggressive or not and you never touch a strange dog you don't know. I don't see any around here.

There was one biting dog up the road from us that was seriously a bad dog. All the kids around here would tease him to try and make him run to the edge of his electric fence and watch how he acted when it shocked him. Yes, that was very mean, I agree. I told mine not to. They did not listen. One day for some reason the electric fence was off. They learned two things that day, 1. Mom is right 2. Dogs can't climb trees but they can stand guard at the base of one for a couple hours.

I knew one bad dog our neighbors had and it was a poodle. He was a very mean dog and he would bark at anyone and one day he bit my brother. I was afraid of dogs for a while because I thought they were all mean and vicious. One time a big dog ran up to me and I got scared and started crying and screaming and the dog was licking me and my supposedly best friend was just sitting there not defending me. She was young too so she probably thought I was being dramatic and over reacting because she didn't understand my fear of dogs.

Those big poodles are some badass dogs. They just look harmless.

I'm not afraid of stray dogs but very cautious around them. I walk every day for exercise and recently was told by a neighbor that the pitbull that guards the nearby auto repair shop is able to get out of the gate that is supposed to keep him in...my neighbor was walking his small dogs and the pitbull slid between the bars of his gate and started towards my neighbor who was able to pick his dogs-up and put enough distance between them and the dog lost interest. Looks like I'll be altering my path to avoid that area...
