If it's strictly a family event I'd sh!tcan the dress if wearing it bothers you that much. The worst that could happen is that you might get asked to leave (more likely by a venue than relatives). Everytime I'm expected to be at events whether family gatherings or company business, I mention way ahead of time that I do not own suits or neckties as I have Sensory Processing Deficit/Disorder and wearing formal clothing presents a constrictive feeling that I wouldn't be able to deal with or function properlly in. This gives them the chance to "uninvite" if they're that uncomfortable with the idea of me showing up with a pullover top, cargo pants, and sneakers or sandals. Don't be afraid to use your headphones, either.
Okay. Thank you. I will though be wearing black pants with a nice shirt. And most likely my favorite shoes. I do not want to make a big scene out of me having PDDNOS so I think I will just entertain myself with my phone and rubiks cube.
