At a local Blockbuster, I noticed that all eight copies of TEMPLE GRANDIN were checked out at about 11pm this past Saturday night.

Good. :D

Although only one portrait of autism (and when you've met one person with autism, you've met one person with autism), I do feel that it advances the conversation that we need to be having in our various societies. (I'm an American. I know some of us are from Australia, from the U.K., South Africa, etc.)

I really want to see it but it's never in any of my video shops when I go look for it.
Anyone in Australia seen it yet?
Been thinking of writing to ABC to show it on a Sunday night. They showed the Black Balloon.

It's a pretty cool thing that the movie was checked out. I hope those people learn something new about autism.

It is definitely a very good film. I'm surprised they didn't release it to theaters. With that said, I am glad that it is raising awareness and not focused on the whole vaccine debate thing that is taking away from the important autism matters.

As a standalone film I think its a really good film, and Clare Danes is excellent. I got it off Amazon. The film does a much better job of illustrating how hard it was for her not only dealing with autism, but being a female in what was at that time a male-only industry. She never mentioned all the s**t that came her way in her books.

I just watched this movie last night. It was great! It made me laugh and cry. She is an impressive woman and she is very lucky to have so many people supporting her.

And that helps a lot! If a person is 'different' in some ways and doesn't fit in conventional way, having a couple of people backing you up and supporting you makes a big difference.

There's also the artist Chris Murray, from the documentary by his brother entitled DAD'S IN HEAVEN WITH NIXON. With his jobs and his art and living independently in his apartment, what he can do with support, interest, and a little bit of material help from his brother, mother, and perhaps other family members as well. (And anything with art, do your best, most authentic work, do communicative work at the same time, find and develop your voice, I wish you all the best, but as far as making money, there are a lot of luck factors and a lot of external factors.)

Life changing for both my son and I. I bought it at Target here in the US. I've bought several of her books, too. And I named my new horse after her

I loved the movie. Did anyone see her the other night on the Golden Globe Awards? She was there with Clare Danes. I thought that was very cool. Clare Danes won an award and Temple Grandin jumped up and gave her a hug. I thought it was great!

Temple Grandin is an excellent movie.

I think you can order the DVD from Amazon assuming it hasn't been sold out.

You can also download it as a torrent if you look at piratebay.

Hey Pensieve,

That Temple Grandin movie is going to be on Foxtel in early February. It is going to be on Showcase channel. We don't have that channel so I guess we will have to wait till the DVD comes out.

I have not posted or reply to any posts on Wrong Planet for a long time. I am not sure if I have to fill in the subject box to reply to Pensieve about this Temple Grandin movie.

Have a good weekend everyone!

I just saw the movie and I loved it but also agree, when you've met one person with autism, you've met one person with autism. No-one's story is quite the same. I got attacked on another BB because I was comparing the Rainman character with the character portrayed as Temple Grandin ('cos she says in the commentary that they fictionalized a fair bit of stuff in the movie, so its not "really" her) . This other lady said her brother was more like Rainman than Grandin, I said I thought the difference in the characters might be because Rainman was in an institution most of his life and Grandin was intensively trained at an early age and "normalized". The lady thought I was accusing her family of neglecting her brother! I never even made reference to her and her brother in my 2 posts.
We were talking apples and oranges- I wanted to talk movie characters, she wanted to make it all about her and her brother. sheesh!

I used to know a "Rainman" type of person, and he never could have done as Temple Grandin has done. Institutionalization certainly can/could be bad for many people, but that does not mean "normalization" is actually possible for everyone.

I thought it was EXCELLENT at portraying how autistic people feel and see the world around them. Although Temple is WAY more autistic than me, I could relate to some things and I think the movie will help everyone understand autism more. Especially since Claire won a GG for it! That creates interest :)
