I can't stand the sensation of the tooth scalpel scratching tool. It's like nails on a chalkboard. I take some clonazepam and I let the dental hygienist know ahead of time that it doesn't hurt me, it's just the sensation that really bothers me, so when she sees me squirming in my chair, she knows I'm not in pain or anything. Understanding goes a long way to making the process easier to endure.
They used to use laughing gas for surgeries before but now just ram needles in you. I ask for extra amount of the benzocaine topical numbing before they stick any needles in me. I also let them be aware of my phobia of needles. I think if I had to endure a major dental surgery, I would go find a clinic that still uses laughing gas.
