I believe the first, and more important information about AS is Hans Asperger's paper.
Does anybody know where can I find it at the net?

Asperger, H. (1944), Die 'Autistischen Psychopathen' im Kindesalter, Archiv für Psychiatrie und Nervenkrankheiten, 117, pp.76-136.

Using google German to English I get:

Asperger, H. (1944), the “Autisti Psychopathen” in the infancy, archives for psychiatry and nervous diseases, 117, pp.76-136.

I think this is German

http://www.neurodiversity.com/library_asperger_1944.pdf

I will download it and see if I can convert it to text and translate it.

----

Hmm its stored as graphic which means it will be hard for me to convert to text :(

Heres a sample of how bad it looks (must have been bombed during WWII ).

Page one of 61 pages I think.

It's german, but the crazy scanned book format is hard to read at best, and OCR programs couldn't even ATTEMPT to get it all.

Some pages are VERY hard (or impossible!) to read at the margins.

I've read his paper, it's in the book Autism and Asperger Syndrom edited by Uta Frith.

It was a long time ago, but from memory it's very interesting because it's the original. It refers only to boys as he assumed it only affected males.

I removed some of the background noise but made the text less readable in the process. Which makes me think OCR will be problematic :)

What we want is for a computer to beable to read it (all 61 pages)convert it to text and then convert German to English. Not having very clear text with no background noise makes that hard for a computer. It could be worst the text could be distorted like those images on websites to prevent bots from making accounts.

Here is what the free GNU OCRAD program produces from the first image:

What program do you use? I got a large portion of my story wiped and all I have left is a written copy...

I've taken a look at the whole thing -- most of the inner margins can be made out (IF you know
German!) except for frames 2, 3, 18-20, 27, 30.

I can't see that it would be rewarding to wade though the text once more inasmuch as considerable thought has been given to reworking and possibly improving Asperger's ideas in the last 60+ years.

I'm willing to be proved wrong but don't have the interest or time to try it myself.

Yes, I agree. Just buy the book, Neuromancer. It was translated and then edited by Dr. Uta Frith and she's written a foreword to give some background as well.

Autism and Asperger's Syndrome, edited by Uta Frith

And if anyone's up for retranslating it, you've got a big job ahead of you. It isn't a paper, it's a book-- i.e., a dissertation, so it ain't short. ;)

It is an important book aside from Dr. Asperger's paper. Every aspie should read this book.

Thanks everybody.
In fact I had read this text once at the net, where it should be much more available for me, but I lost its site. I want to translate this paper to portuguese, once there is few information about aspies in my language, and very much misinformation about it.
And I really believe every aspie should read this definitory text.
