I can’t figure out how to use the WrongPlanet map. (At the moment, I can’t even find it.)

So I started a new one at Google. You need to register with Google Maps to use it.

If you really stink at this sort of thing or if your head is like a sieve, just copy and paste these instructions to a temporary NotePad or WordPad or whatever you’ve got.

Or, if it still doesn’t work for you, send me a PM or make a post here with your location and I’ll drop your pin wherever you say. It only takes a few seconds when you’re used to it.

Open the “Asperger’s Meet-Up” map at: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF&m ... 765d465ec5

Use the vertical bar thingie to zoom-in and out. When your cursor looks like a little hand, you can use it to push the map around – just click & drag.
You can also find your place on the map by entering the address in the Search thingie.
Click on any pin to see who it represents, then click on the “X” to minimize the bubble.

When you are in “Edit” mode, a little tool bar on the top left of the map shows four tools.

To place your pin on the map: Hit the “Edit” box. Click on the pin in the little tool bar to pick it up, then click on your location to drop the pin. Enter your information in your bubble, then click “Ok” to close the bubble. Hit “Save” to save your changes and hit “Done” to quit the “Edit” mode.

If you belong to more than one group, please mention your other user name(s), so we know who you are. You need not give your actual address. You can use a nearby mall, library or other public place. If you want to change the color of your pin, click on the blue pin inside your bubble.

To delete a pin, just re-enter the “Edit” mode, click on your pin, click “Delete,” then “Save,” then “Done.”

When you’re done, make a post here in this thread and say, “I did it.”

Oh. I found it. I still don't know how to make it work.
http://www.wrongplanet.net/modules.php?name=map
http://wrongplanet.net/map

And the discussion is in the thread, "Frappr Map"
http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt16987.html

====================

Just wondering -- when you click on my new map, what do you get?
Does it start with the world view, or the close-up of my local mall?

Wow, great find. You get five exclamation emoticons for this!
:!: :!: :!: :!: :!:

I am not sure what you mean by "use it". You add yourself by clicking the "add yourself" button. You stop the automatic jumping around by hitting the stop button, an dyou move around the map by clicking and dragging. If you want to see what a pin says, then you click on it. It won't lead you to a WP profile because the two things are not related.

Nope. It doesn't work.
I can drag the map around and I can click on a pin to see who it belongs to,
but I can't add one for myself.

Did you guys add yourselves to the old map?

==================== edit

I don't see a "stop" button and never have.

I got it to do something this time. It seems very temperamental.

Click the gray "Add Yourself" button on the left
Click the "Hi! Please Add Yourself"
Select People or Places and continue.
Fill in Name, e-mail, upload photo and message.
THEN it lets you "move this pin" and asks for your address.

That's backward. And what if I don't want to give my exact address?

Now it's covered with those gray boxes that say "Image Unavailable,"
even when I zoom all the way out, so I now can't see where my pin landed.

Cuz there's a lot of psycho's on the internet and pinpointing your exact location is probably not a good idea. Paranoid? Maybe. But better to be safe than murdered lol!

Where are all the Canadians? We don't really live in igloos, that's just a myth.

There are a lot of WP people near me. I'm in the DC area.

It's kind of a cool area if you're an Aspie and have special interests. The place is full of embassies that have open houses and events, museums, outdoor music (in the summer). Lots of events happening here all the time where you can be very active and do a lot without having to have a lot of friends or be networked into some social scene.

On the downside there is intense traffic, and it's confusing to get around, and everything seems to be a mission. An open landscape and simple layout is to a town is much more appealing to me.

Great. Now the (old) WrongPlanet map is completely covered with "Image Unavailable."
I can't see any part of the map at all. Just a bunch of dots on a solid gray box.

And I'm still all alone on the (new) Google map. (sigh.)

Anyway, where is everybody? I don't see any new pins!
You don't need to give a real address. Just somewhere in the area.
