Aspies VS Halloween

What do you guys think of Halloween? Are the costumes and the parties bothersome, or do you enjoy it? I find the candy very appealing, though I'm getting a little old for trick-or-treating! I'm not generally a huge fan of costumes because of the sensory issues involved, but if I can wear something simple with no makeup, it's generally okay. I sort of like pumpkin carving, but I usually have to do it with big groups of people, which I hate, and the cold mushy innards are horrible. In fact, the only thing about it I like are the seeds, which I get to roast afterwards. I generally don't like the whole getting scared thing, as it happens all too easily for me. Frankly, I think I'd like Halloween more if it were changed to just a "celebration of autumn" kind of thing. What about you guys?

I don't participate in it much. It's just another day to me.

The local town does have a pretty good Halloween Carnival. It used to be at the gym but the last two years it has been in the park. I've yet to show up to it.

I've had a lot of crappy experiences around Halloween that have kind of spoiled it for me. Also, my ideas for costumes usually are not very mainstream. One year I went as Torgo from Manos the Hands of Fate and I spent half the night explaining my costume. Torgo is a satyr but he looks like he just has really big knees... so truthfully I can understand the confusion. I thought it was hilarious. No one else did.

I can relate in that I really do like Autumn and see it as a time to have some Octoberfest Marzen Beer.

I haven't participated in costuming or festivals much in a long time though. Usually had to work anyway.

So personally I might see it as a time watch a good horror film or read a good horror novel. This year it looks like my way to enjoy Halloween would be to see Silent Hill 2.

I detest horror movies. They are always so unrealistic and unbelievable that I can't see any point in them at all. Instead of scaring me, they just bore me.

There is one annual event that is held in the same period of time as Halloween. That was the Houston Moonlight Ramble -- a 2 am bicycle ride around the streets of Houston. The full course is about 20 miles. It is generally scheduled on the Saturday night with the fullest moon close to Halloween. I don't know if they close the streets off now for the event, but when I used to ride in it, the streets were not closed at all and so you would have thousands of people on bicycles sharing the same streets with drunk drivers trying to get home from the bars.

When I lived in the Houston area, this was the one must-attend event of the year. One year I even rode it with a cervical sprain (sprained neck) that was so bad that the day before I couldn't even move my head without being in severe pain.

I like costumes and I like candy.

In Australia, particularly the inner city for ages 18-26 it's about dress up parties. Last year there were no Trick or Treaters. I wonder if Melbourne will even do it now, since the whole Jill Megher incident.
I think I'll do follow tradition and buy some chocolates to hand out to the kids and if they don't come, eat said chocolate.

There's a big push getting kids to eat healthy food so I'm not sure if parents will even want their kids to go out and get chocolate. I think it would be too dangerous letting kids walk around the inner west too. And that's coming from someone who grew up in a dangerous area down south and I went trick or treating. Heck, I walked around so much on my own in that town. At times I felt like I was the little nerdy kid being egged on by bigger kids to go to that one creepy house and ask for candy.
Or maybe I've just been watching too much TV in my youth.

You're probably right the Jill meagher incident might make people wary of letting their kids go trick and treating.
They might even say something about it on the radio when halloween gets closer.
I buy those packets of mars bars and snickers in case the kids come around but they haven't in recent years.
I end up having them instead.

What exactly is the point of halloween? Ive always wondered this. I could understand if it was based on a real paranormal event but it isnt.

In my old age, I've come to enjoy all the dressing up, etc. I'm in the middle of making costumes for myself and my husband, as we're going to a huge bash, attended by people who put in a lot of effort. My daughter already has plenty of costumes, but I think she might be wanting to go out as Slimer, from Ghostbusters, which might be difficult for me to make. She goes out 'guising', with her Daddy, and only to the houses very close to here.

I love Halloween.

It's the one time of the year where my sick, twisted, morbid sensibilities don't look out of place.

Even though I've never celebrated Halloween, I had an idea for next year. My plan is to create a Minecraft Zombie costume and go on one of those zombie walks. I could even use the same costume for a cosplay.

I love halloween. Candy, autumn colors, costumes, getting drunk, and it's the one holiday girls can dress like sluts and it be socially acceptable.

I love it, Halloween is definitely my favorite holiday. However, I don't party at all but simply enjoy the season, the atmosphere, and crafts. For instance pumpkin jack o lan's made of paper mache and other stuff I can tinker around with and decorate my home. Furthermore, I like the candies and use the opportunity to eat even more sweet stuff than usual. Also, I'm an outspoken fan of horror stories and read some of my favorites at this time as in a recurring ritual.

Heck I would use a Torgo costume to filter out non misties. Who needs them?

Halloween could be fun, but it's a "social thing" and hence... well we know what's going to happen. Each year I don't bother with it and if I end up at a party, great, if not, also great. Then there's the sale on pumpkin-shaped candy the next few days. That too, is great.

Meanwhile, I got pumpkin beer brewing, made from real pumpkin and pie spices.
