Anything I see can trigger lots of memories
Something I would like to know whether it has something to do with Asperger, something that I am still so reluctant to accept.
Not only for being so polite and formal anytime/anywhere I write or talk, but also for always doing the same repetitive things which could take my entire day and I see no problem in repeating them. But also for another intriguing characteristic.
Any object in front of my eyes can trigger lots of memories and associations. I am used to do it, and I start talking a lot about what the object I see. Even a glass of water can lead me to talk a lot about water, clean water here and in other countries, water issues on other territories, water at other planets, its formula, lakes, oceans, rivers, stories about water, etc etc. Once I had a professional interview with a woman who wasn't brazilian and we had a nice time talking about her country - from the capital city to a TV program I recalled and was from her country. After 40 minutes I had to leave but it was unforgettable.
It's funny but at the same time it sometimes annoys the listener because it takes a long time for me to realize that the person lost interest on the topic because I try to exhaust all possibilities... It's typical of me.
Whenever I listen radio, I have fun with recalling band/singer and song name after a few seconds. When I was 8, I was noted for remembering countries and its capital cities, and the ability to find any country anywhere at the map, taking a world map to classroom when we only had to study our own state/province.
Please tell me what do you think about it.

I go though the same stuff. I can look at a pencil, a TV remote, an atlas or a computer and a bunch of memories come rushing back to me at once. I can look at parent-child interactions and the same thing happens. Not all of those memories are pleasant.

Hi franklin.jr and welcome.
I have the same issue in that pretty everything I see will trigger a memory. I guess being at home around familiar things it doesn't happen as much as I'm used to having those things around. But when I'm out of the house I'm just constantly having the most random memories come up from things that I see and hear. Sometimes the link to the memory is very tenuous and sometimes I don't even know why a certain thing brings it up.
I have most difficulty with things that remind me of whatever I have been obsessively ruminating on recently. Also there are a lot of songs I just can't listen to because they will bring up the memories. Everything is linked to something. The difference with me is I dint say it out loud but I do have those chats in my head all the time and they will lead into other things. I wish there was a (temporary) off switch for my brain sometimes!
But I'm sure there are very good ways to use a brain like yours.

I was reading a book by temple grandin- and she called that very thing the "autistic associative thinking" just look up temple grandin and associative thinking.
Also, I would suggest her latest book: the autistic brain it's pretty decently priced and you can get it off of amazon! I thought it insightful and interesting.
It also sounds like you have a good long-term memory/good long-term recall. That's a good trait to have- and probably is useful for you or it can be!
Indeed there are many good ways to use my brain and I can tell you about two of them: one is at job, where I feel creative and productive, and other is when I make fun with daily things like puns and jokes. It's so good when you are able to catch a word which elicits a smile and make others laugh. Unfortunately I cannot translate them into english because they would make no sense. Only issue is that no pun, no joke, teaches me how to have a solid relationship with anyone, and I always feel so lonely when I head back home.
It's also good to have good ideas which impresses my bosses and this is something I am used to do everywhere. However my jobs are unstable, always something happens and I am dismissed and I don't know what to do about it.
Thanks for suggesting me a book, I will try to reach it here in Brazil. There are also some books from Temple Grandin already translated into brazilian portuguese.
