With non-sleep related stuff I mean. Both of my kids and I sleep with loads of stuff on our beds. There are the basic stuff like alarm clock and tissue box and some books for reading and some stuffed toys for cuddling, but there are also loads of odd things that don't belong to beds. I wonder if it's an ASD thing or not. For example, on my bed I have (other than the typical stuff stated above)

- loads of books, a couple of carved rock eggs (smooth and heavy)
- hair accessories, a ruler, a ring mandrel, a 10X loup
- various random things that come and go, including a cast iron frying pan at one time
- piles of extra blankets pushed to the side I don't use

On one son's bed he's got

- about 20 stuffed animals (I don't know if that's usual or not)
- various books and toys
- baseball bat (for intruders he said), empty bucket (in case he pukes), flashlight
- a couple of cheap plastic coat hangers (they each have name)
- a couple of rocks (non attractive, smooth or have any value, they're named, too)
- wallet and a whole bunch of trinkets, his current favorite video games and their instruction manuals
- old cardboard food box he picked up at school from the garbage can, and named it. 8O
- various other random things that come and go, including an ottoman at one point, forcing himself to sleep on the very edge of the bed.

My other son's bed is equally cluttered, but it's mostly books (30+) and various pillows. He sometimes stack them and sleep on the heaping pile. He slept with the ottoman for a while, too but there's just not enough room for his pillows with that. :D This is the son who likes hugs and deep pressures.

So, what about your bed? Neat or cluttered? Anything strange on it?

Only during the day. At night I put the stuff away or dump it on the floor.
Usually it's sketch books, physics text books, clothes, etc.
When I sleep it's just me and a very soft purple pillow.

As a kid I used to line up things I had collected that day on my bed and sleep next to them.
I always used to kick off all the toys at he end of my bed too.

I have a computer desk too which holds my phone, alarm clock and other stuff. It's right beside my bed.

My bed is cluttered with many random things, mostly books. I clear it off every so often and stuff accumulates quickly. I've done this as long as I can remember.

Looking:

* A stuffed toy
* DVDs
* XBox games
* cough drops
* Aforementioned books
* Music CDs
* Xbox 360 - this is actually where it is because there is no room elsewhere at the moment. I need to reaarrange
* A dead computer power supply
* Blanket
* Sheets
* Pillows

When I was a teenager my bed was cluttered with all my stuff - I think because my bed was the only "my space" that I had. Now I've got an apartment and I can dedicate the bedroom to restfulness and sleep, and there's nothing on my bed except sheets, blankets, a duvet, and a dog. But I don't ever make the bed - sometimes I just pull things straight. It's still my best, most private place.

I did this through at least most of my teenage years but stopped somewhere along the line. Not sure when or why.

My teenagers are like that... the items that they have in their rooms seem to migrate to their beds... they just sleep on it all to. It twitches me. My bed has to be free of clutter and neatly made if I am not in it. I could not sleep with extra things in my bed. That would be awful.

So are you all saying that this is Asperger or Autism related? I know my parents think my place - bedroom, and rest of home - looks cluttered. I am probably a mild Aspie. Is it related?

It doesn't strike me as an Asperger's trait somehow - I have no expertise for that. It seems more like a teenage thing, or a "this is mine" thing, depression can lead to hoarding but I don't think it's that.

It can just be a "this is clutter" thing, which itself can be an executive dysfunction thing - which can be autism, ADHD, PTSD, depression, and other conditions that aren't immediately coming to mind. I have a terrible time dealing with clutter consistently, as much as I would like it otherwise.

Right now I have 3 covers, 7 pillows, 5 books, 3 notepads, some clothes, lots of pens and a speaker in my bed.

I think I sleep better when I have litle space to move, I feel safer then.

For the past weeks I've been sleeping in my couch couse I realized I could put the low table next to it so I only have 40cm vide area to lie on and I filled that with 2 pillows and a kingsized cover and some clothes so I can just barley move :)

I'm a neat freak, so I don't have anything on the bed except for my wife and 5 dogs 8O . Maybe come to think of it, there's NO ROOM for anything else!! !!

Let's see: I have two metal file boxes which may be on or at the foot of the bed, depending on your definition, a rug, a wadded up extra blanket, three rolled up sheepskins, seven decorative pillows, a padded backrest pillow, two hangers, and three books open to the page I stopped reading. This is on a twin bed.
