Hey guys,

I have a question... why is it i cant understand jokes unless they are puns? is it just me? or is it part of the ASD and does anyone else hate it when their family watches comedy shows because of the loud noise?

It's probably part of ASD; failure to understand humour is one of the symptoms you often see listed. Aversion to loud noise is also on that list.

Personally I don't have a problem with sarcasm, puns or obvious jokes, but I do have problems with banter. I can't always tell that it is banter or a wind-up, and I certainly don't know how to respond to it like-for-like. Usually people have to tell me they were just joking, and then I laugh embarrassedly.

I find it fascinating that some people on ASD don't get jokes or humour , I can't even imagine what that is like.

I've used and studied humor for decades.

I don't always get jokes.
Once I laughed 3 hours after hearing a joke.
Folks in the car that heard the telling of the joke, laughed at my delay.
A source of melt downs in my youth was not miss interpretation of jokes.
I'm learning life is too serious to be taken seriously All the time.
I take my serious work serious and myself lightly.
