I've found that I can tolerate some things(to a certain degree, not all) I normally couldn't when taking part in my special interest, if the stressor is happening at the same time. Has anyone else found this? Why would this be?

I believe you can tolerate certain stressful stimuli better when you are engaging in your interest because you are comfortable and successful. I know that I can deal with the stresses of life much better if I feel as though I am generally successful in my endeavors.

Yes. One of my interests used to be Edinburgh's dark history, and I was able to tolerate moving through the throngs of tourists to reach and photograph certain parts of the Old Town in a way that normally I wouldn't be able to cope with. The people became nothing more than objects in my way and I went round them like rocks in a river.

That's a really good analogy. I like it :)
