How the heck do adults get diganosed?

I'm in my 20s still without a diagnosis. I can only find child thearpist, not sure the proper term. I really want a diagnosis I know in the past thearpist have suspect that I was on the spectrum. But never official. I need to find someone competent. I did see one for a child back when I was 18 and he never diganosed me he just kept sending me for testing costing me a bunch of money and he never gave me any results

The doctors there didnt even know what was going half the time.

I called my University for a referral to Neuropsychiatry and found a specialist in adult, female diagnoses. If that doesn't work for you, try calling the autism services which are provided for children in your area. Ask who their diagnostic doctors are, and call those people for recommendations.

In the us you can ask your general doctor for a referral to autism diagnosis

Diagnosed autistic level 2, ODD, anxiety, dyspraxic, essential tremors, depression (Doubted), CAPD, hyper mobility syndrome
Suspected; PTSD (Treated, as my counselor did notice), possible PCOS, PMDD, Learning disabilities (Sure of it, unknown what they are), possibly something wrong with immune system (Sick about as much as I'm not) Possible EDS- hyper mobility type (Will be getting tested, suggested by doctor) dysautonomia

In Connecticut there are doctors in rich neighborhoods that don't take insurance. If you can pay for it isn't that hard to get a referral for someone who is highly specialized and very good at what they do.

I had to call up my insurance and they gave me a list of psychologists who took my insurance and performed neuropsychological evaluations on adults. I had to call several different practices before I could find someone that could see me within a reasonable timeframe. Frequently, people have to wait up to a year.

How I found my evaluator:

The local autism society had a list of people who did diagnoses. I researched each one until I found one I trusted, than paid the amount out of pocket because my insurance didn't cover it.

Got diagnosed at 21

At that time I went to UCSD

The school told me that, a psychologist from school or Kaiser could not diagnose me

It had to be in private practice

A certain type of psychologist
