He's never on time, today he just didn't show up. No note or anything. It's the second time this happened (in only a few months!). Once when he was late he told me he owes me 15 minutes...but those 15 minutes were forgotten only one week later. Is it time to get a new therapist?

Have you established a rapport with this therapist?

If so, I would just express my irritation at him "blowing you off."

And warn him that if this continues, that you will seek a new therapist.

I can only imagine that if there is a rapport, it's one-sided. I can't imagine why anyone who had any concern for their patients or sense of professional ethics would treat them with such disrespect.

Sent a note out for a new referral tonight.

Yeah, maybe better to get a new therapist. Hes causing more stress than helping lol.

I know the feeling, i havent talked to my psych in over a year.

Are there any plus sides to your therapist?

My psychiatrist would pull the above because of his medical issues. (found this out much later)

BUT

He always took my phone calls. Always found a way to get me an urgent session if needed. Was never hard core about me paying up right after the session was done. Never was a PITA about changing medications or refills.

The upsides definitely out weight the once in a while squirrelly-ness.

I've seen to many times were a person gets pissed off and quits a decent therapist over something that could be fixed.

If this person is sort of meh, and you don't have much connection, I would move on.

Last time my shrink didn't show up, I was livid. Only to find out his kidneys had shut down. Sometimes life happens and it's no one's fault.

Good luck.

No, it wasn't his liver. I wrote to him. He just forgot that I existed. I should be used to that! Whatever. I'm done.
