Right now my stupid impulse is converting to Judaism. I know it’s a stupid decision because Judaism has a lot of restrictions and it doesn’t really align with my beliefs. My beliefs are more new age and wishy washy. For now I’m listening to Hebrew music and slowly studying Hebrew to satisfy this special interest. I had this special interest a few years ago. It faded, but now it’s returned. Does anyone else have stupid impulses related to their special interest?

It is actually very difficult to convert to Judaism, for some reason. It's actually quite easy to convert to Christianity.

I believe you wanted to try to convert to Judaism a couple of years ago.

I do have impulsive things but not relating to religion. Since I'm an atheist. But I guess I have one with getting Sonic Unleashed on PS3 even though I own the 360 version of the same exact game. Some people may think it's stupid that I plan on buying the same game I already have but on a different console.

I don't believe it's a "stupid impulse," by the way.

A "simple impulse" would be to get in front of a car with the intention of getting hit.

But is what I said actually a impulse? And by the way that game I just said is actually my all time favorite Sonic game and one of my all time favorites.

I was actually talking to Balbiturate.

I don't think it's "stupid" that you like that particular game. It's okay with me.

well, I'm not sure if it's exactly an impulse but i did fail my first degree because i spent too much time making music. now i've started to resent it a bit because it took over my life and am looking for a more sociable hobby / just gonna take a break until I'm back in a stabler environment

I know it’s difficult. I did have this impulse two years ago and freaked out about it. Now I’m more calm about it. I’ll check out some chruches, mosques and synagogues to not seem too obsessed with Judaism.

Do you actually believe in Judaism as a religion?

I sense you might believe in Judaism more as a "culture" than as a religion.

What do jewish people think of people who want to convert? Right now I’m wondering if my local synagogue has some good events for non-Jews to learn about Judaism. I mainly think it’s a stupid impulse because I honestly don’t know much about Judaism. This hasn’t been a very intellectual special interest so far, but a lot of my special interests don’t start out too intellectual. My special interest in eyesight and glasses wasn’t too intellectual at first, but eventually I moved on to reading academic papers about it.

You’re right. Which is why I know converting is a dumb idea.

My stupid impulse, if you could call it that, would be to go to a tennis tournament, interview Denis Istomin and write his life story. I think it is more of a wild dream at this point, not an impulse, as I have given it a lot of thought. At this time, I don't know if I could actually manage everything it actually takes to travel out of town to attend a tennis tournament.

I bought myself a German helmet at the military surplus store for $100 two years ago, this time.

in the past I spent money I didn't have on stuff which in retrospect I would better have done without.

I had interest in Judaism for a lot of time a few years ago. I don't even remember how/when it faded.

often life gets in the way of our perseverations, and when there's a pause in the action, the old obsessions return with a vengeance, that was the way it was for me.
