The worst was when I travelled in Europe between 1981 and 1983. The Red Brigade was active then and had kidnapped a General Dozier. Sadat was assassinated while I lived there. Tunisia was fighting with Libya and taking in Arrafat and PLO members. It was very tense over there and I had police dogs going through my bags over and over, patdowns, strip searches and you name it. It was hard then to go from country to country without being touched and humiliated. I didn't like to be touched at all, but I wanted to travel, so I forced my mind elsewhere and dealt with it. I wouldn't say I ever became comfortable with it or used to it. What goes on now seems like much less to me, but I might act less suspicious than I did back then. Really, I have no idea how people perceive me and that's a huge issue when you are going through security checkpoints. The security people are taught to look for suspicious body language and lack of eye contact. We stand out every time and the more we're touched, the worse we act. It's a catch 22.
wow that really sucks...im sorry to hear that you had to deal with soo much tramatic experiences...i hate for anyone besides myself to have control so i try to stay away from airports or aircraft for that manner...
i dont see myself getting a pilot's license anytime soon so i dont think i will be on a plane for awhile....
