I realise that I'm struggling with the following social situation: disagreeing with someone (about anything really) without it causing a discussion. If someone says something that I disagree with, it seems like there are 2 options: state that I disagree with them, prompting a long but unnecessary debate, or pretend to agree. Is there an alternative 'script' anyone can think of for this situation? Thanks in advance

"I can see you and I don't quite see eye to eye on this, but I can respect that that's how you see it."

I'll remember that the next time someone wants to play Devil's Advocate with me.

Be prepared to use it multiple times with the same person. Some people don't understand that they aren't going to get a debate out of the exchange until they hear this type of things a few times.

I say, "I can agree to disagree!" which is basically the same thing, and still ... yeah, it can take some repetition. I love that you have this issue, though, it's one I have and consciously ponder.
