Wrong. I don't play that. I'm not a backup plan for when the popular people are TOO busy for you....

Oh, thought you meant something else. But I understand.

It's frustrating when people treat you that way. It hurts really badly and no one should have to feel like that.

You might want to adjust the title of your thread. I took it literally and I was really excited to actually feel like you were here because I was feeling so incredibly low right now and I have not been able to reach any of my friends and loved ones and I was excited about the thought that you might actually be reaching out in this thread. I know that you and I have had some really nice exchanges and I was hoping to become good friends through this thread since I thought that was what you intended. I was actually really hurt when I realized what you meant. So maybe consider changing the title of the thread so that we know that it is a sarcastic statement.

It's intended to address how I feel about people in my offline life.

Is that expressing the idea of being a "backup plan", or just a way of saying, "I can be counted on. I'm dependable. Others may leave you, but I'll still be here."?

Or it could mean you're someone's friend (or they're yours) only when no one else is around to see it. :?

It's kind of vague to me.

It means that I am nobody's backup person.

Yeah, no one should be their friend's designated last choice.

...though I wouldn't mind if I'm sometimes the last choice.

Yes, I know that feeling.
The geek equivalent is well known to me, too; "I'm your friend because I'm having a bit of trouble with my computer..."!

i often feel like i am peoples backup person and no matter what i do it often ends up that way.

i don't mind that, what i do spend more time being a sad sack over is the fact that i've never been anyone's first choice

there's always someone my closest friends (to me) are closer to than me and it hurts a tiny bit.

Then, there are the people that try to act like we are close friends, but when I contact them, I get ignored. I am the last to be informed of anything that is going on in their lives and often times it is through another person.

It's a long time since I gave a s**t whether I was someone's first choice friend, last choice friend, or friend at all. Most of the time if I am invited to anything, I decline anyway.

Maybe you all will get lucky and grow out of caring, too.
