I do NOT support them because in their commercials they make autism sound like a disease that's spreading

I do not support Autism Speaks and I never will. I have a few choice words to say about them, but I won't. I have a role model who doesn't say hurtful things, so I'd better be careful. I call it Sweet Pea training.

When I was younger, my mom would make me attend Autism Speaks fundraisers. But sometime a few years ago, I convinced her to stop making me to go the fundraisers (and essentially "boycott" it).

I don't feel the need to ever support Autism Speaks again ever since learning of their horrible deeds.

It seems to me that Autism Speaks primarily appeals to parents of children on the spectrum who are non-verbal. When autism speaks makes statements online or in commercials, they are trying to grab the attention of parents who can't let go of their desire for an "ideal child." Parents want to do EVERYTHING they can to help their kids, and Autism Speaks knows that. "Just donate here and you'll help." Autism speaks doesn't seem to concern itself with people like us who live and function with it every day. It's not about our comfort or desires or even our best interests. It's not about people who are high functioning at all. As per usual, we are in a weird limbo between planes of human existance.
