When people say "always have a smile on your face"

What do people mean when they say "always have a smile on your face". I've never met a person who ALWAYS smiles . What do they mean?

It's a signal to rise up against the tyranny of happiness.

It just means you usually have a slight smile or smirk when that person sees you

They just don't want to think you might be a cold blooded killer. If you smile, they feel safe.

It depends who is telling you that.

If it's an employer, they are saying an important part of your job is to be "cheerful." Like if you are a greeter at a store or restaurant, trust me, customers don't want to know that you're PMSing that day.

I try to walk around with an enforced smile on my face. It's somewhere between a rictus and a wince. It's a form of masking really, but if anyone else tells me to cheer up I'm afraid I'll punch them.

I'm happy inside.

Obviously the people who tell you this have never seen Pixar's Inside Out and know it's okay to feel sad or unhappy. I find people who smile all the time creepy and annoying. They're especially creepy when they talk about something disturbing and they smile and laugh the whole time.

The contrarian in me has a bit of a habit of not smiling for photographs.

Anyone tries to take a photo of me it usually ends up with a space where I should be standing.

Have a positive outlook. Doesn't mean you have to always smile.

Literally no one has ever said this to me.

I have a friend who always smiles.
It sucks because she can be in serious emotional distress and she still keeps smiling - this is just the default thing she does with her face.
She's a masking Aspie. She believes she trained it to please her parents and now she struggles to untrain it.

What they mean, I could only guess

Some precious lil "people" act like they have a moral right to be happy at all times and, otherwise, it means someone violated their stupidass "rights"

Nobody has a right to be happy at all times

The same idiots, Amy Lee scheel b***h and counselor Jeanne Courtney, act like I don't have a moral right to express any emotion they don't understand, like or desire

IMHO, when someone tells me to smile more, it's actually not as helpful to me as they think it is. I usually don't smile unless I am having a sh!t ton of fun or am in front of someone I trust and like. So I apparently tend to come off as unfriendly and aloof just because I don't smile when my mood is neutral, which makes no sense to me. One could hide the worst pain behind a smile.

Laughing is similar with me. I laugh only when I'm actually having fun or when others around me do it. This leads me to laugh at jokes I don't even find funny, and I think smiling when I'm not really happy is not super appropriate.

All of this is an attempt to form the rather unusual mask I wear every day in public. Only when I am around people I trust will I let the mask come off little by little.

Granted I am way too uptight and that is bad for me


But sitting around flapping their stupidass traps with so much enthusiSsm that , they act like every thought and emotion that goes through their head is the latest greatest scientific invention




They are judgmental and manipulative

If they can "be true to yourself" , you can also


But the world is not fair

I have resting happy face. It's not all it's cracked up to be.
