I am now officially on the spectrum: I have completed the diagnostic process, met with the clinician, read the report and the result is that I was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. I was also told I have ADHD traits but not enough for a diagnosis. Long story short this confirms what I already knew for a long time and nobody can ever accuse me of 'faking' it. I honestly don't know what the next step is but at least there can be no doubts now that my perception was correct.

Congratulations :)

I don't think much we'll change since you've known for a while and probably done your research. There are virtually no services for adults who function reasonably, but at least you know for sure now and you can move on with your life.

Does there have to be a “next step”?

Being diagnosed with something doesn’t “change” you.

It changed me. I didn't have to hate myself anymore. I think it was different for you korts, because you've always known that you had a diagnosis of some sort. A lot of us went decades feeling like aliens, and having no idea why.

Congrats GHF! It's wonderful to be validated.

It doesn’t change your essence...is what I mean. You don’t have to change how you view people, for example.

Obviously, this gives you validation and makes things make more sense for you.

Congratulations.

A professional diagnosis will guarantee that nobody will doubt you although it should happen less often. The important thing is you have no doubts for these people to exploit.

It sounds like you now have some certainty about what you have suspected for a while. It's now official!!

Welcome to the New World (of certainty). I was diagnosed a few months ago and met for a follow up this month b/c I needed to sit with it some more. I want to fortify my certainty to face the doubters (and haters). To proceed as different and not wrong. I need another sentence here so that last word doesn't echo, because it does, all the way into my past. I need a new word to project into the future.

The next step could be, for example, applying for services or therapies.

The good thing is that you now have more of an understanding about yourself so you can plan things accordingly.
