I tend to give short and concise answers and explanations, except when a longer one is required.

Autistics do tend to "monologue". Especially about special interests. That IS a common trait.

At this time in my life, I do this only in work situations, and I've gotten much better at it. It hasn't actually impacted my career in a negative way for years. Before that, I had to sit through the same speech every year during annual performance reviews about "considering my audience".

I think what has helped is actively seeking feedback from coworkers as to what they want to hear. I try hard to not subject anyone to anything that's going to be hard for them to sit through, but sometimes I explain that I need to share certain factors that contribute to my decision-making process. I have had people tell me they were surprised to discover they actually learned something by listening to me.

Better than trying to be somebody totally different from who I actually am.
