I have a theory that people with ASD or AS can see Magic Eye 3-D stereograms easier than NTs.

I want you to try and see what is the 3-D image hidden in the stereograms below. To be able to see each one, you need to focus on the image, then relax your eyes like you do when you do the daydreaming stare thingy, and post a reply telling me what did you see, and if you found it easy or hard or impossible to see the 3-D images.

Good luck!

Trying to do it on a computer hurts my eyes. I used to do them all the time when I was a kid, though. My brother and my friends always got mad, too, because they couldn't do it. :P

I have never, ever been able to do a magic eye.

I stare forever, I see patterns that I could guess is something... but that's just my imagination creating something that isn't there.

What I look at... I take too literally or something.

the first is a plant in a flowerpot/vase type of thing-looks like a rather large plant that would probably be on the floor next to a couch, but that is just me... second one is a planet.

It wasn't hard-but the hard part came when I got that kind of "eye crossing" feeling going. It is extremely uncomfortable.

The way I see them is by looking at them like I look at people... try to look through them, not at them.

I saw them both within 3 seconds, but I have had allot of practice.

When I first saw a magic eye image, it took me an hour or so to see an image for the first time and then 30 sec to one minute or so to see it again. But since then, with allot of practice, I can see it magic eye very easily.

a palm style plant in a curved short vase, or a short squat gift with a really nice feathery bow.

and Saturn. . .or a Saturn like planet with rings

the trick is to put your face up almost with your nose touching and then pull your face back until you are about 12 to 18 inches back. . .try looking at 8 inches then stop your head incrementally. . .

These are pretty easy to see. I just relax my eyes, and go into one of my other worldly trances, and the images just pop out. By the way, it is a very valuable skill to have.

1) some kind of flower or plant in a pot.
2) Saturn (the planet, not the car)

I am NT. Didn't take me long to see either of them - like 15 seconds, maybe.

I remember my AS bf and I were looking through some Magic Eye books once, and I seemed to be a little better at them than he was - either more patient, or knowing how to cross my eyes better and less distracted by the wild repetitive pattern. (He finds visual complexity apart from simple geometric patterns off-putting.)

So I think it's an individual thing.

1. Plant in a pot

2. ringed sphere

Very easy for me. I can just unfocus my eyes and focus back in on the images. Only about 3-5 seconds.

No I can never solve those.

Sounds like it ultimately amounts to motor skills. I have dyspraxia.

I don't think it has anything to do with AS. It is stereoscopic vision and depth perception. A person who is blind in one eye will not be able to see the images.

I see a potted plant and Saturn. I've been able to do this since I was like 8, but it took me forever to learn. Now I can do it just be staring for a second or two.
