Avoid LED because they don't glow outward from the bulb. It's only the bulb that lights up. You'll notice they barely cast any colour into the air or on the wall unless they're designated downlights.

Here we can only buy LED and it drives me insane. The colour-changing bulbs aren't as bad but the red is always pink and everything is washed out or unsaturated. It's really hard to get decent, real red that isn't LED, anywhere these days. Red is my favourite.

Thats really useful thanks!

I have a problem with peripheral light too. If I'm facing one way and there's light on either side of me, even if it's something nice like a candle, I get vertigo. I can't even be in my snug when the daylight comes in an adjacent window with a blackout curtain, from across the house. If I catch it in the corner of my eye I get dizzy. I've yet to find a solution that really works enough to let me actually see anything beyond avoiding nausea and headaches or shutdowns. Part of my issue is I get visual overwhelm if I see too much of anything illuminated. Life is too many colours and shapes and details and it's all overstimulating. At night we can choose to just illuminate the thing we want to see. That's something else to consider. You might have the same issue. I hate daylight with a passion and spend most of my daylight hours in my cellar which has no windows, just with an old Christmas tree dimly lit (colours), or my laptop light.

I like nice even light around the room. I dont like lights from a single source otherwise its annoying.

Daylight doesnt bother me unless its very sunny. I think someone at opticians said its micro-flickering artificial light that aggravates some people ... something like that ... so that could be something to do with it for me.

I see things too intensely like im seeing everything with 3D cinema glasses. Things just pop out and patterns and mess annoys me and lots of different clashing colours etc. But i live in mess and chaos. I also think i see things wavy and distorted.

I dislike the supermarket and cant stand flourescent tube lights.

I like the Christmas tree:)

I have to face away from light sources when I'm sitting or lying down or they hurt my eyes.

I think the reason that light coming from bulbs hurts our eyes is because people are not meant to be using light sources coming from light bulbs. We have been using candlelight for centuries and than around 110 years ago or a little sooner, we as a species have been gradually forced to do things by artificial light.

Here's some examples.

Here's a few pics I just snapped.
I would never have all these lights on all at once, and quite often none if I use candles.

The first one has an orange salt lamp but I forgot to turn it on:

Some of the colours might look washed out but it's just from my camera, or else they were colour changing and I caught them at a dull moment. They're all quite saturated. This is only a couple of rooms because I'm too lazy to go all around my house or light the candles, but you get the idea.

Whats that bulb behind the duck? (nice pic btw) Where do you find these gentle lights for the lamp shades?

Also ive been taping paper around lamps tonight to give extra protection from harsh light!

Some fairy lights can be quite intense cant they

Behind the duck you'll see our friend Mr Recidivist lol ---

But seriously, the lamp is from Ikea. It's about five years old.
I change the bulb with C7s of any colour I want.
They're the smallish bulbs you see at Christmas or in some nightlights.

Here's a few more within walking distance that I forgot. ^ (lazy me)

The one beside the big red lamp is cute but it uses batteries and the batteries are dead.

Faerie lights: You can buy spools of translucent gauze ribbon to drape around them. I do it at Christmas to soften my Christmas lights. I'll see if I have pics. Also you can buy little adaptors that you plug in between the cord of a lamp and the wall, and you just tap the decorative bit to make any light dimmable. Mine are put away from Christmas but they help with the tree not being so bright. I'll find a pic of the coloury lightbulbs.

Here's my household lightbulb drawer. It's a collection of stuff from over the years (not Christmas lights)

These things are good so you don't have to unplug faerie lights. Just flip the switch:

These are touch lights that change colour - stuck in closets etc. Just tap on and off:

All the colour changing ones come with these remotes. I have about 30 of them

Just realised I didn't put a picture of the colour changing boxes.

I thought they were Phillips but it looks like LE.

That's weird. I normally have about four extras in boxes but I guess they've been used.

The regular looking table lamps are all really old.
Nothing special - just stuff I got at thrift shops over the years.
Don't spend a fortune.
Second hand is likely better if it has a good cord.
New lampshades are always that ghastly harsh white colour!

I'm still looking for the gauze on the lights.
No luck yet - but here's some random Christmas stuff.
Sorry I had to crop them bc of family photos.

Oh, I meant to say - the white candles in these pics are battery so I could leave them on all night.
We had house guests and I didn't want them falling down the stairs or carrying flames lol
