Afternoon all :)

Recently diagnosed, and still learning more about various terminology in addition to learning about myself.

Alexithymia, as I understand it, is difficulty in recognizing emotions?

I am curious, as I did watch a video on it in which it stated, that some autistic people have a miss-match between the emotion they feel, and the response their body feels. For example, they may be ''happy'' but experience anxiety. I found this quite interesting, and was wondering if anyone else is like this?

Many thanks

I have that same diagnosis, I don't understand it either. I just know that I prefer not talking about emotions, as I frequently feel nothing in particular, and am very much perplexed by all the emotional lives many people seem to have. I prefer data, science in general, that's much easier to understand. :nerdy:

To me Alexithymia is the inability to recognise and describe our own or other people's emotions. Sometimes I find it difficult to tell whether someone is sad, angry, bored, etc... Identifying other people's facial expressions can be hard. For example, I could be going on about one of my special interests with a friend and not realise that they are bored. It can be hard to know how I'm feeling myself in certain situations unless it's obvious like if I'm crying I know I'm sad. I feel like it makes me come across as unempathetic at times.
