Recently I have been getting more sensitive to the label "aspie," and prefer to now be called "a person living with asperger's." I guess this means I will have to change my forum name. My problem is that asperger's doesn't define me as an "aspie," rather my asperger's speaks more about me as a "person" who has specific qualities but is still just another human being like anybody else. In other words, asperger's doesn't make me a different kind of person that needs a special name, rather asperger's makes me an ordinary person with a few differences that are already well highlighted by my being diagnosed with the condition of asperger's. Asperger's is more of an adjective helpful in describing some of the complexity that makes me into me, whereas the label aspie is more of a noun that attempts to completely define me by my asperger's in an overly simplistic way. Anyone else feel anything similar relating to the label of "aspie?"

I prefer 'aspie.' Referring to me as someone 'with Aspergers' makes it sound more like a problem, an illness, a disability. Which it isn't. It is the kind of person that I am. NTs are not 'people with neurotypicality.' I doesn't really bother me that much either way anymore though.

I agree. The word sounds like a cute nickname for something that isn't cute to the people who have it. Even to those whose condition is relatively mild, it can be frustrating.

I also prefer 'Aspie' -- it's a convenient short form, nothing more.

You're overthinking it. While you are thinking about the label, you are not thinking about how to expand your capabilities.

I agree but lets make it shorter like lets start using one letter. We can not use "A" because it is used in English text alone too often I suggest "P".

Example: Ps are getting too much oppression by the NT's my brothers.

P could be misinterpreted as urine though.
I say we use S.

Then the Plural form would be "SS" :)

Well then I would suggest I, but that wouldn't work either. 8)
What about E?

I don't tell most people so I don't have to worry about it.

I hated being an aspie until I found that I am one. I am explained, and being an aspie I find that comforting.

I like "Aspie", it is cute and non threatening and sans inference of illness. And it beats being an "ass burger" all to hell!

But if you press the S one too many times then we're 'ass pies'.

Who coined the phrase "aspie" anyway?

I love onion burgers and bacon cheeseburgers and garlic burgers. What could be so bad about an ass burger?
