I have autism & I find that when I'm sick, my autism becomes more severe & I show far more traits of autism. Are there any more people like this?

I hardly ever get sick. Honestly, it's been so long since I've had to see the doctor for antibiotics, fever reducers, or anything of that sort (over 15 years) that it's hard to remember what being very ill feels like. Sure I'll get a stuffy nose now and then, but even those clear up within four hours. However, the one time I do remember having anything bad (think it was the flu), my autistic tendencies (primarily stimming) decreased greatly. I'd think that if one were extremely affected by an ailment, they'd be too weak and/or bedridden to show as many of their autistic features as they normally do.

I really don't know. I've never thought of it before. I have had my family tell me that I am harder to be around when I'm sick: that I'm more emotional and rude.

I don't like to be sick. Usually when I do get sick it's just a cold or something, but when I get like the flu or something bad then it does affect me greatly. I don't want to be messed with.

I get whiney just like everyother guy who gets sick. I do have pretty good range when projectile vomitting though I wonder if that is due to autism.

Well, if the target behavior is crying, of course they would cry more when they are sick because they don't feel good.
Some behaviors should go down as they are too tired to demonstrate those when they are sick.

My autism causes me to want to touch my face and various areas alot and as a result I would get colds constantly. By high school it got so bad that I would get colds about once a month and occasionally would last for weeks. I just wish all of these special cold symptom speeding remedies that are out in the market today had been around when I was in high school. It would've made such a huge difference. Last week, I was developing a cold and tried this new stuff called "Cold Buster" I took it for a day and a half and my cold only lasted for 3 days. Best stuff ever!! !

When I get sick, I just stop, almost catatonic.
However I do have a seizure disorder which does leave me paralyzed for about half an hour.
I haven't had a fever in a long time. Obviously, my executive function goes out the door when I'm ill like it would anybody.
But usually when I'm very ill I won't take medication so those issues cannot be treated.

I have also noticed when my own body is weak that I'm likely to have more meltdowns because I don't have as much control over my body. Even a headache, stomachache, womanly cramps and other such ailments would make my autism symptoms worse because I'm more bothered by them. Even an a hungry stomach would make me meltdown quicker. Or hallucinate.

This kid ain't all right.
