could it have been the cause of my asperger's syndrome? i knew i lost consciousness for a while. what i knew was i used to be talkative and cheerful before i suddenly developed my autistic syndrome so i suspected that i wasn't born with asperger's syndrome.

Um, you can't suddenly develop autism. You have to be born with it.

Asperger's Syndrome isn't caused by a brain injury...like hitting your head on the concrete floor. However, Epilepsy can happen
that way. AS involves the "internal wiring" inside the brain...that's why it is called a NEUROBIOLOGICAL disorder.

As a four year old, I had an older and mean kid throw a rock at the back of my head while I was riding my tricycle. I had a severe brain injury...but, if it caused my AS, my parents would have sued the parents of that damn kid.

He may have developed autistic-like symptoms after the fall. It isn't inconcievable that a fall could damage the areas of the brain that are associated with autistic deficits. It wouldn't be true AS, though, because as people have said, that is present from birth.

Ya, I have had a few concusions and smacked my head plenty of times in my life, definatly must say that had nothing to do with my HFA/AS. I may have sustained some drain bramage, but beleive most of it is nature/nurture, genes and environment decide if one will have autism prior to birth, my thoughts anyways.

Oh yes...

I've taken blows to the head a few times myself, including getting hit with a monkey wrench.

However I was most definitely autistic before that.

You can develop autism; there's about a million causes for it, congenital, infectious, chemical and whatnot. I'm certain it's conceivable for trauma to the brain to cause autism.

Autism itself is seen as an "end product" of specific damage to the structures of the brain that are responsible for social interaction/communication; no matter what the initial cause is/was.

Quote:
This suggests that a variety of medical conditions can lead to brain damage, and if critical parts of the brain are affected then the individual may display the typical features of autism.

If Autism is caused by the amount of times you've been whacked in the head, my sister would be a NON-functioning Autistic with the number of times I've accidentally hit her as a kid.

Although that may explain why she's a bit crazy...

Never had a serious head injury in my life.
Okay, almost one... but I was 18 and very Aspietacular already.

Funny story though, I hit my head on the floor of a boat. Don't ask.
