I thought about just removing the tip of one of my finger as the pain in cold weather and winter is starting to suck, but from what others said after a joint removal (not voluntary btw) you still get phantoms pains.

Sucks, I guess just learn to live with the pain. I was using some heat cream on the joint but then I ALWAYS get it in my eyes before days end or somewhere we are not going to post and ouch!

Have you tried ActivOn?

It burns very little, and works. I use it on my shoulder.

Yeah, Raynaud's came to mind. Vascular reactivity. Fish oil and B vitamins help some people. Stimulants (caffeine, nicotine) seem to make it worse.

Another possibility is scleroderma or an autoimmune condition.

OK - you do realize there are options other than cutting off your finger, don't you?

Yeah - ALTERNATIVES EXIST. Just the removal was an OCD thought I will never do it. But I understand phantom can still exist.

At times it is as painful as folks describe gout pains - other times it is nominal at best. it is in the finger joint itself.

OK. Personally, I also have this condition thoughit affects my toes specifically, so i know how unpleasant it can be. There are some chinese medicinal remedies that work well. Acupunture for example. And http://www.jidetang.com/chilblains is worthy to be read for getting an idea on how to find some relief. :)

Raynaud's was my first thought too. Chilblains could be it as well. Also consider thyroid disorder.
