Yeah. Interesting thoughts.

I think the old clothes didn't "move" with you but that was okay because one wasn't wxpected to move about and do so much maybe. *Gentel* men sat at desks all day running the business or estate and women just sat letting the servents do the work.

Workers clothing was much more comfortable. It had to be.

Something you must realize is that distillery and fermentation was big on ancient peoples priority technology list to develop. And they did so, and became the primary passtime of all ancient people. Religion came in a close second.

There are so many things I think of that I can't imagine how people dealt with...
but then, I suppose it was normal to them,
they didn't know it was possible to smell any different or to have more comfortable clothes.

Even things have changed so recently that I can't imagine doing without.

Heh, I can't imagine that they had much enjoyable sex!
I wonder if it was a case of it being just practical, kinda like a baby was inevitable if you did.

It was probably hard to breath in those dresses. And why dosnt anyone ever talk about in the mature forums?

PROBABLY hard to breathe? Dude, it's called whale-bone corsets: it was VERY hard to breathe!

I think you can live with anything if you are used to it. The smell of other people didn't bother people, because they didn't know what it was like not to live like that. Living without air conditioning didn't bother people, because they didn't know what it was like not to live like that. I imagine that hundreds of years from now, people are going to look back on 2005 and say 'How could they live like that?'

Some extremely rich people wonder how the middle class cope with life in modern times.

It wasn't uncommon for women to pass out from a lack of oxygen when they started to exert themselves or if they were out in the heat to long.

On the topic of hygine, actually during colonial times and before, personal hygine was considered a taboo thing to do. People not only lived with, but enjoyed the smells of other people's unkept bodies. Napoleon was once quoted telling his wife "Gone for two weeks, don't bathe"

Not to mention that soap was heavily taxed and indoor plumbing and fixtures were so expensive only the wealthiest could afford it.
