aren't shopping malls FUN?(especially shoe stores.)

ARGH!

i dunno if it was the lighting or the noises or what, it just made things impossible to concentrate!

There were so many people,and no-where to sit to try on any shoes,and there were so many people crowding the aisle's.
The lighting was annoying,i don't remember if it was so bright or what,it just drove my senses crazy.
and then there was the noise and the fact that none of the shoes feet my odd-shaped feet.

I could honestly not tell if the shoes were flopping(too big) but i could tell if they were too tight.

Sort of like this:

my mom:though those shoes flop?they seem big...
Me:i dunno.

My mom:you don't know?

*i nod*

My mom:well if you'd answer me then i would know.

And such.

i don't get it.why only in malls?

maybe its the fact that i could smell the food from the food court,hear my mom talking to me,fell the too-tight shoes, and hear the people talking?
Another thing that could've caused it was the fact that,on monday I'll be coming to school wearing nice clothes,instead of my usual stuff.

It was like having a meltdown,only focused inward with no screaming,flapping,or anything besides that minus a little bit of access
finger movements,which i do alot.

anyone else hate stores or the mall for these reasons?

That is sensory overload,definitely no fun.

Malls are full of it,they are violent torture to Auties and Aspies.

Get a pair of laserlite earplugs [best on the market and easy to get,and are soft and not scratchy] and a pair of ear defenders worn over the top,that will help a little for the noise side of it,but it will only help with quick in and out visits.
Am could not cope without either of those for even walking in the door of a mall,and will end up on the floor being restrained in headbanging and speed rocking mode,and would say not using them is probably the best thing,they are very Autist unfriendly.

If have access to use of a car,go to shops that are outside residential places,like retail parks,there are less people,do not have to walk through an already crowded sensory attacking place just to get into the shop.

Go at the least busiest times,even if it means the earliest or the latest.

If know exact size of feet,buy off internet,from shoe shops that speciliaze in width of shoes as well as length [mum has to buy two pairs of the same shoes because of her different sized feet].

I love malls and especially clothing and shoe stores! My mom took me shopping constantly when I was very little so I guess I must've grown up really liking it or something.

I f*cking hate shopping malls. hell I hate going to any type of shopping venue.

It depends on the mall or store. I generally hate Wal-mart stores, but the new Wal-Mart supercenter here is quite tolerable because it uses skylights bring in natural sunlight during the day, the aisles are wider then normal, and the floor is colored in marble and granite tones and not harsh white. I prefer smaller stores that don't have much noise.

i work retail... so i am desensitized to malls as in noise and lights, but then again i go shopping by myself, at my own speed. i have a personal love for shoes, so i know which ones will work for me and which ones won't most of the time simply by just looking. I think some of your meltydownness was the fact that it was no longer your nice comfy clothes, but "nice" clothes that don't necessarily fit the comfy description. new stuff.

what i hate about stores when shopping is pushy associates. I can shop very well all by myself without your help thank you. But i think sometimes they come over to me because i have to touch every piece of clothing to see if i can wear it, they think i am getting ready to steal or something.

i really wanted to get new shoes,but things didn't work out.

i did get a nice pair of bright purple stretvhy pants though.

I find I don't get overloaded in malls (I seem to float instead). I find I can only focus on one thing though, so I can't talk and browse at the same time

I've had to adjust to crowds though - my school has over 1500 people in it! I guess that could be a factor

I don't like being touched though. I don't mind crowds, but I freeze and panic when touched.

The bigger the store, the harder it is to deal with it. Malls are like one giant store. I don't visit them.

ya being long time in shoppingmalls gets my shoulders stuck and feeling nervous

I can handle malls - but I prefer open air ones like Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek. I can also handle stores like Hollister.

Actually sometimes the bigger the store the more comfortable it is because the attention is not on you. When you walk into a smaller place with a few people in there such as a barber shop for example. You're expected to talk or at least greet people.

Short answer: yes.

Long answer: GOD yes.

I don't go very often to malls, but when I do I actually enjoy the shoes--- I collect boots, so the shoe stores are a place to inspect new arrivals. I also like shoe stores because their employees usually leave me alone, unlike other stores in the mall. I also get to sit down and remove my old shoes and let my feet breathe--- even walk barefoot if I desire, although I don't because the floors aren't clean. But I can order boots online now, so there is even less reason to go to the mall.
