The long route or the short route?

If you don't mind the long wait, then go through your doctor who will refer you to a local mental health team or similar, though you could wait up to 18 months for your sessions in some areas and then if they are not that experienced in autistic spectrum disorders then you could possibly be misdiagnosed. The advantage of this is that it would be free.

If you can afford it, find a private consultant and you could be diagnosed within weeks. Great advantage of time and hopefully expertise :D

Have you looked at the NAS, they have lists of people too. http://www.nas.org.uk/

Depends if have a lot of money and want to be assessed faster,or can wait long but get it for free?

NHS assessment-start at the GP,bring a list of all the symptoms that do have, and why want to be assessed, they will refer onto a pyschologist or pyschiatrist, and ask if they can specialise in ASD if possible.

Private assessment-start at the National Autistic Society- http://www.nas.org.uk contact them and they will give a list of private pyschs available.

[Edit]
^have said mostly what Kaleido has said, took that long to post.

I had mine done at the Ashwood Practice in Woking, I saw a consultant clinical psychologist called Loise Conner and they were great. I did it private so I didnt have to wait and had an appointment the next week. The diagnostic interview took 2 hours and she ran through a questionnaire like what you get on aspie quizes. She was the nicest person Ive ever met and I would highly recomend her. If you want their phone number pm me- oh and it cost 470 pounds
- good luck :D

That's what I want, just that final closure I guess - something official. I'm just setting up health insurance at work so I'll see if it covers this
