Arthur C. Clarke passed away last week. I went back to my notebooks and looked up a quote from one of his novels which I think appropriate for us to keep in mind.

Quote:
"It was a pity that there was no radar to guide one across the trackless seas of life. Every man had to find his own way, steered by some secret compass of the soul. And, sometimes, late or early, the compass lost its power and spun aimlessly on its bearings."

I'm doing a bit of aimless spinning, right now. However, I can feel the power returning and the gyro is coming back to speed.

Yes,I have experienced similiar spinning before a "life change" and it can be very frustrating to regain your bearing but I have learned to be more patient with it as I get older.I try and remind myself of the mantr

"This to shall pass" because nothing in life is or should be stagnant(even for those of us who fear change)

I liked Arthur C. Clarke a lot when I was a kid. I read the Space Odyssey and the Rama books and a couple others. I half agree with that quotation. Life is better with no "radar", because a radar would make life less diverse and more predictable. Finding your own way is fulfilling. Living life is like writing a book.

And then, sometimes, what appears to be spinning, is not. It is simply a different way of thinking about things. Nothing wrong with that.
