thats funny my Jewish neighbors kids are all Ginger Kids with curly red hair, my great grandfather who was half native and scottish also had curly red hair, I think the gene is recessive though western Europeans, the Celts were also living on the steeps of Russia, so it shouldn't be to surprising that Jewish people have the same recessive gene.

My bad, on further research, I was looking at the wrong outdated records in my family tree, Sarcie was misspelled, and they are Sarcee (Tsuu T'ina) which are related to the Blackfoot Nation, and not the Sioux, and lived around the Edmonton Area, not in Manitoba

Aren't Neanderthals a sub-species that died out?

there is still some debate on wither they interbred, I thinks its possible, but there isn't any mitochondrial proof as of yet

How many Chromosomes did neanderthals have? Shouldn't the offspring have been sterile since they were hybrids?

I'm mostly French and English, I guess. I've got a random red beard amongst brown/black facial hair, which runs on the side that doesn't have any Irish as far as I know. Genetics are fun.

Its still open on if they interbred, since the mDNA and DNA samples are degraded, it shows there is a 99.5% to 99.9% similarity between both species, the answer is in that .5% to .1% variance
the great apes have 48 chromosomes, I would tend to think that since Homo sapiens neanderthalensis and Homo sapiens are closer on the evolutionary tree, they should have a similar amount of chromosomes, we have 46 & chimps have 48, and by the facial reconstructions of some, they are very close to modern human, as in indistinguishable.

An interesting fact I read once is that a study showed the highest prevalence of Tourette's among any ethnic group world-wide is found in Afrikaners. The reason is our relatively small, isolated gene pool. It was also mentioned on one of the forums here that AS and Tourette's are the most likely to be co-morbid. Makes me wonder if Afrikaners have the highest insidence of AS then?
