I pronounce it ass-pergers.

Not when speaking Swedish, right?

Us-perr-jesh. I think i would say pretty much the same in English. IMHO, there's no need to pronounce it like ass burgers. No matter how you pronounce it, it will still not sound German. It doesn't sound more German because you use a hard G, as in ass burgers; it's still very English.

I pronounce it more like "Az-per-ger's" I know it's improper pronunciation, but it keeps people from mishearing it as "Assburgers".

I mispronounce it with a J. That's how I originally thought it was pronounced when I first read about it anyway and still prefer it much more to Ass-Burgers. I don't feel like I'm doing anything wrong giving a foreign word my own interpretation. You say tomato...Besides, even if I wasn't insecure about the "proper" way of saying it, it's still an earsore because of what it sounds like. Even if other people were always polite about it, it's like the yelling coffee stain in that Tide commercial. It's distracting. Actually, besides with my mom, I don't talk about it at all, but that's still how I pronounce it when I do. And that's how I'll keep pronouncing it in the future.

i say as-burgers fortunately in Aus ass is pronounced arse but some people also say asp--per- jergers either way is ok.

As for syndrome, I think I'll stick with the American way in the US.

Asp-urg-ers. With a hard g. That's the way I've always heard it.

American : ass-pur-ger's, or ass-pur-ger's ???

German: ahss-pah-gah's (no emphasis on any syllables??)

Same. I always take careful measures to emphasize the "p."

When I first started learning about the condition, I thought it was pronounced "Ah-sper-ger's." I started reading about it on my own, so I never had heard anybody pronounce it. It took me several months to say it the way most people do in the US. My original way now sounds awkward and "wrong" to me. I like the way "Asperger's" sounds. I think it's a pretty word.
