Why are so many aspies from the UK?

Just wondering.

I think in the UK the term "Asperger's" is more common and more diagnosed. In the US the more conventional terms might be PDD-NOS or High Functioning Autism, and I would guess there are less people trained to diagnose it.

My guess is that it's because this is an english speaking site and the UK has the highest number people speaking english as a first language outside of the US

My guess is because in the UK Asperger's is often used as a term for any sort of autism where the person can speak well or score about 70 on an IQ test (and in some cases even for people who can't do either of those things), so there's more people diagnosed with it than elsewhere.

prolly because the British are proper and exact, and have a wonderfully vague description called AS, while we're just nucking futz...

Mebbe it's National Health; everyone can afford the Internet there..

Genetic predisposition.

I don't know about anyone else but I was born here.

Could be genetic predisposition. I come from East Tennessee, and Scottish and English are pretty much the only two nationalities you'll find here (unless you have Cherokee mixed in, which some do but I don't). My ancestry is about 50% even on both sides.

I've heard about the red hair / Aspie link, which fascinates me because I have naturally red hair, as did my (suspected) Aspie grandmother.

Not from the UK myself but there are a bunch of members that are.

There was something funky in the German cruise/ballistic missiles.

Population density, psychologists per capita and/or universal National Health Services. So there are more people in a smaller space than most countries, theres more people to diagnose it, and the mental health service is more readily available.

I didn't really notice a larger number of British people here. I am English myself.

Interesting... both me and my sister are mixed race, half black and half white, so it was always considered a bit odd that my sister was born with a head of naturally bright copper hair. I have Aspergers, she doesn't, but it still affirms the red hair link.

Could also be the NHS - we get diagnosed for free (I assume so anyway... I was to young to be involved with my own diagnosis, and haven't looked into it).
