Why are so many aspies from the UK?

That's new to me! I was born with red hair, although it's turned dark brown over the years.

Oooh yeah in your dreams getting diagnosed on the NHS!! ! Sadly here in the UK times are just as awful as the rest of the world. It is NOOOO better here. Provision is sadly lacking, experts are like rocking horse poo and noone understands the spectrum as a whole.

Noone sees the whole picture, everyone is too busy running down their own trail and not taking into account that NOONE on the spectrum is PURE. We are all little bits of this and little bits of that. If I went to an ASPERGER specialist I would be deemed normal. If I went to a Pyschiatrist he would say I was Bi-polar, if I went to a Neurologist he would say my MRI is normal! But hey I go to an ADHD specialist and come away with a label, trouble is underneath all my ADHD is AUTISM. But noone could see that!

HFA/PDDnos verus Aspergers?

Aaahhh forget all the titles, PDDnos, Aspergers, ADHD, ADD, SAD, SID, ODD, CD, DAMP, CAPD...................Who gives a damm, just call me a jellybeans! Covers the lot then and is so much kinder.

It's probably because Lorna Wing is based here. She was the first person to translate Hans Asperger's paper into English. She was also the founder of the National Autistic Society www.autism.org.uk .

There's obviously a correlation with the amount of tea one drinks and Aspergers hence the high number of Brits here........wait a sec......I don't drink tea!!

Maybe us Brits are more willing to open up online and admit what a lot of society may see as a weakness (incorrectly in my opinion).

One of the above posters was probably correct in noting that healthcare is free here and that could lead to more people getting diagnosed as we don't have to pay to get checked for stuff. I don't know whether I would have followed everything through if I would have had to pay for the diagnosis.

Yeah, I've been wondering that, too.

I thought it was mostly Americans on this forum.

I am a BRIT!! ! Born and bred BUT my dad is American, I only found that out 6mths ago so it is a bit new being half a yank!

It's probably an illusion due to the relative density of population.In terms of land area the
USA is approx. 38 times larger than the UK,but in terms of population it's only about 4 and a
half times larger.

We call those on the spectrum jellybeans and include ADHD, ADD, ASPERGERS, PDDNOS, HFA, SAD, SID, CAPD, DYSLEXIA, DYSPRAXIA, blah blah blah as on the spectrum! The neurotypicals we call marshmallows. We reckon that approx 30% or more of the population in the world are jellybeans!! Maybe even higher. Proportionally that makes a lot of jellybeans on this planet. California seems to be a hot spot as does New York for jellybeans!

The UK is no different to anywhere else I guess, we all have our fair share. There is NO discrimination in ASC, it don't matter what colour, creed or class you happen to be!

The important thing to realise is that compared to the numbers there are NOT the experts to deal with us all! Aaaghhh gonna be another 20yrs before we all catch up! Scary eh! But for those of us diagnosed we need to count our lucky stars. For every jellybean diagnosed in this country there are another 1000 queuing up! Lots of them unsuccessful in getting a diagnosis and still fighting. It is very sad.

am dont think are make up a big amount of users on here,but maybe because it's 'easier' to be autie and aspie in the UK-there's more access to diagnosis and support here than US,so are more likely to be diagnosed and supported..better,also,wrong planet is the biggest and best spectrum forum out of the lot isnt it,it's going to get a load of UKers as it's the most active and is not fixed to one belief.

There are children being ripped from their mothers arms BECAUSE they are being accused of child abuse WHEN actually their kids are on the SPECTRUM but being refused diagnosis!

UK IS A BAAAAADDDDDD PLACE FOR KIDS ON THE SPECTRUM. TRUST ME. I KNOW!

Oh and by the way there are a load of Brits on here too. You US guys don't rule the planet you know!! ! There are other folk out there tooo!! !!

Ironically I am broke and so is she so we still have not met each other!! Getting on a bit in age so lets hope I make it one day eh!! ! Till then I will have to rely on Echolalia and dreams!! !

When I was in the USN stationed in Rota Spain, I found that all the Commonwealth citizens and Americans seemed to have an affinity for each other. Common language & roots I suppose. jelibean, you are 9 months and 25 days older than me, congrats on finding your parents, too bad we didn't meet in Europe back in 1980 or so. Did you listen to Blondie and the Ramones back then? I like being on a board with a bunch of Brits!

Hey hey velodog!! ! Debbie Harry eh!! !! oooooh I am singing in my head now!! !! Yea I think the Brits on the spectrum adore the yanks in particular. If I came over there I would just blend in and noone would think anything BUT if I stick out like a sore thumb here. My friends say I am more yank than Brit, although I talk in a terribly posh British accent!!

What a shame I missed ya, I was probably doing my nursing training and getting married, divorced and into a lot of mess!! ! Still get into messes now but more controlled ones!! lol!

Oooh well if you are ever in the UK or Europe again we will have to meet up for coffee and talk old times!! I am trying to set my own jelibean consultancy up so you never know one day someone may invite me to lecture in the USA!! Hooooray. Actually CALIFORNIA is where I wanna be, that is where my sissie is!! Soooo weird, I had been an only child my whole life and wished for a sister! Now I got one!! ! Thank heavens for webcams!
